Expanding the Riverside Stadium..

The Stadium is empty atm.. so that wouldn't be a problem, plus calls for Euro 2020/21 to be held in England

The chance for some increased revenue when everything is back to normal?

We had planning in for 42,000.. stick a cople extra donks on it and we'd be good to go!

There must be some lottery money/sunak's magic money floating around to get it done..

The planning for doubling up the East Stand has now lapsed - it only lasts for 3 years usually that kind of application or did.
Austria/Switzerland Euros they bumped all their stadia with temporary seating - which was maybe an approach hosts should use in the future. Why spend big for just three games. The Olympics seem to following this sort of route in the future.

They would have to stick on a roof and have a gigantic Crystal Maze style cash grab at half time to try and entice people in with our home form in 2021.
I agree, we should have a giant crystal maze on the top!

yeah, it's been passed once.. so more likely that it will be again. we should go bigger!!

because it's a change to get more seats in the stadium for nowt. - seems like a good idea. make all the extra seats kids 4 a quid - two birds with one stone

With the benefit of hindsight, which is a wonderful thing of course, maybe we should have built big at the start? Built a 42,000 stadium like the Mackems? We could have the regular season ticket allocation, a larger away section allowing for more away fans, and given free tickets to schoolchildren or others on low pay/benefits etc? similar to Sunderlands approach? We could have also had a more realistic ticketing policy using pricing bands, which we have needed for years so that fans are not paying ridiculous amounts to see sides who would not usually draw large crowds, or entertain as much. Better to have bottoms on seats than swathes of empty red seats because people cannot afford, or won't pay excessive prices.

We should have kept the capacity at 29k. I know people will point to the fact we were averaging 34k at one point but it only lasted for a couple of seasons.

During our final Premier League season under Southgate we were only managing crowds of 23k for some games.

Our average going down under Southgate was 28.5k.

Under Karanka it was 30.5k.

Despite the urban myth that we have no supporters, I personally think those average relegation attendances are outstanding.

The plan in 1993 was for an eventual 42k stadium - myself I would prefer 30k - once all seater stadiums drop below 80% capacity it affects the atmosphere.

The Sunderland approach was ultimately a spectacular failure. You can give away as many free tickets as you want but how do people then afford the second and third match. The Riverside Stadium when built was a massive upgrade on the capacity at Ayresome Park - it was a giant leap forward and many said it was over ambitious.
We only fill the away section in the Premier. It is more like 200 average in Championship 2000 in Premier. Boro do give free tickets to schoolkids and others doing Foundation courses etc.
We should have better pricing I agree but then I am hoping that we can get 15 000 + next season as a feelgood bounce after COVID. The club/Warnock are making big efforts at reaching out at present and it would be superb if they paid off. They would like people to get involved in ways to make the concourses more welcoming etc. They do want the Boro to feel like OUR club.

The stadium is about the right size for us if we are challenging for promotion or a lower-mid Prem club, which is what we are really.

Would be interested to see what ideas are explored for the concourses. That sounds creative and exciting. Bringing a flavour and sense of Teesside identity will be great. Football is a great uniting sport and the sense of community and 'One big family' is wonderful. UTB
