Ever been in the away end?

Millwall at The Den in 1985, away fans banned so had to buy a ticket for the home end the day before the game. Luton in 1989 had a membership scheme, had to join that to get a ticket.

I was in the away end when Wilko scored, as he raced towards their goal I gripped the barrier as tight as I could telling myself to NOT celebrate, geordies stood behind me were saying he wont score he's useless, bang goal 😁 I was bursting inside but crazily just stood motionless
I was on the half way line in the main stand when Wilco beat the offside trap, and I had no confidence that he would get to the penalty area without being caught!!
On the lines of the original OP I went in Barnsley end at Ayresome Park in a FA cup tie in 1980s when we won 2-0 or 2-1 , as I travelled up from Leeds with Barnsley friends. Very hard to keep quiet when we scored,

I don’t know what the attendance was but it was a fantastic atmosphere in Ayresome for that Barnsley match.

My first away match was in seats at st James park think 1979/1980 we won 4 2 was sat on me dads knee when we scored 3rd I jumped up and threw my pie in air and landed on some guys head we weren’t popular I was only bout 9

only ever once at Ayresome, Went with some makem mates v Boro , the Willey free kick game , got chased all over before the game , Clive Road was pretty scary as well....

Was on the Stretford End for the League Cup semi in 1992 (?). Mate of mine is a Man U fan (from Manchester!), and as the away end was sold out... Right behind Schmeichel when he made that save from Willie Falconer. When Giggs got their winner, there was a melee of celebrating (still standing then) and I kicked some bloke up the ****. Not sorry.

I was there, Billy Ashcroft scored twice. The walk back to the train station was certainly character building.

Great atmosphere that night from both sets but Boro fans were incredible, Fergie said loudest away fans he'd heard.
We should have won as well...

1995/96 when the Riverside was a season-ticket sell out I could only get tickets in the away end for the game v West Ham at Christmas via a lad I knew in London.
Fjortoft scored and it became obvious then that I was not alone in sourcing tickets this way and there were pockets of Boro fans everywhere in the away end so we briefly cheered each Boro goal without any real issues. The West Ham fans and Police were not overly happy but none of the Boro fans were being idiots about it and there was no bother so everybody let it ride.

Not been in the away end at Boro, though we did go into the South Stand near the Basel fans to suck the ball in (it worked), that's as close as I've got.

Last time in the home end (when Boro were away) was at Blackpool for the late 2-1 win at Christmas. Nice.

Went in with the WHam mob at AP midweek fixture (late 70s). Thought their corner would be empty but a couple of hundred hardy souls made the trip. Only by accident of fashion sense and the company of new girlfriend  that I wasn't wearing my scarf. It was all very subdued really, probably because of low attendance and that Wham won. All memories subject to misinterpretation.

Twice I have been in the home end when Boro have played away and both times for my sins I’ve been rewarded with Boro conceding last minute goals and the home support going wild while I made my way angrily out of the stadium.

The first time was accidental as my wife was told she could have complimentary tickets through her work so we made our way to Bramall Lane on the day and given tickets to a hospitality section in the home end just above the tunnel. I thought about asking to change to the Boro end but thought getting some free food and drink would be worth the unexpected change of ends.
It wasn’t as a Phil Jagielka last minute screamer gave newly promoted Sheff Utd a first win of the season.

The second time was even worse. I was on holiday abroad when tickets for Sunderland v Boro went on sale and as I tried to join the online queue, the internet, which had been ropey throughout the stay, just went down completely and I missed out as we sold out very quickly. On my return I got a colleague who lives up that way to get me a ticket in the home end. After a tipsy turvy game with five goals and two sendings offs the Boro were 3-2 and seeing out the game when the mackems had a last minute corner. Right in front me I could see the Boro lads panicking and shouting “who’s got who ’ere” and I could see Callum Mcmanaman completely unmarked at the back post. Of course the ball went right through to him to slot home in the 96th minute meaning the mackems around me where jumping all over. I just quickly marched out the stadium fuming.

That last experience has put me off ever doing it again.

Sunderland away, think we won 0-1 Bosco with the goal .
they kept us back in the corner after final whistle and I remember stacks of coins and darts flying over us .
was frightening as a young boy 😫
