“ UEFA are considering a shorter postponement of Euro 2020 to December rather than next summer. “

The most logical step would be to postpone Euro 2020 for a year, making it essentially Euro 2021, played next summer.
However, the Telegraph notes another plan on the table would be postponing it until December.
It would also be a way of preparing nations for the planned 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which is planned for November and December that year.
 
What about next season. What would happen to that. December and new year is the busiest period of a regular season. Is it not?
 
It will be a rehearsal for the World Cup 2022. It isn’t unthinkable and season can take a winter break.
 
Interesting idea. So, Euro 2020 is in December, we use the months before to play out the rest of 2019/20 seasons including cups. There would be no season 2020/21 as such but perhaps some shortened half season from Jan to May, perhaps teams playing each other only once with no promotion or relegation?
 
For me you say games cannot be played until mid May and that’s the FA Cup (played in a week) pre drawn semis and Saturday two games winners play on Tuesday, two games Sunday and they play on Wednesday, then culmination of European club competition. You could even make European games single leg on a neutral ground or Saturday/Tuesday, Sunday/Wednesday so that would take a fortnight to complete. You then use June to complete the league fixtures, with weekend and midweek games. Play offs first week in July. Then a 6 week break, and season starts first week September and you then play catch up through the season. By staggering it with cup games first you allow it to be gradually built up, restriction on visiting supporters or closed doors games might be a solution to mitigate policing or further spread of infection.

The damage is being done now. Revenue has stopped but out goings continue. How you jig the competitions once sport resumes won't matter quite as much. Perhaps some sort of revenue boosting format for the lower teirs to help them recover?
 
It's a bit premature to be planning anything - though I appreciate they have to do something.

If over 70's are going to be locked down for four months starting in a couple of weeks, that suggests the government believe we're looking at the end of July for infection to be slowing down. So the 2019/2020 season is done. But the 2020/2021 season can follow as normal assuming large gatherings are allowed in August. I don't see UK clubs wanting to lose out on the lucrative holiday season. The Euro's may just have to be abandoned. Or played in the summer of the following year - but I assume that conflicts with World Cup qualifiers.
 
the thing is, who is going to part with season ticket money and who would expect people to part with season ticket money, until they know the format of both the rest of this season and next season, people would need to know what they are getting for their money, surely???
 
I think there has to be something put in place as a plan with a timeframe as soon as possible, if that timeframe slips then so be it but there needs to be some leadership and clarity over what is going to happen. There will be a point when things can resume then we go from there, another option would be to truncate the league season next season, by making it regional so you only play half the games with a play off for the winners to decide the Premier League winners, the bottom club in each regional division is relegated and the top club promoted. The second bottom team and the second top team then play off for promotion and relegation. This would extend to bottom two league one and below.
 
I think scrapping the cup competitions for just one season, and beginning later is an acceptable solution.

I'm honestly not overly fussed about ending this season early, despite the obvious issues with sporting fairness.
I think it says it all about the problems with football that the only real issue people have with early promotion and relegation is the money side of it.
 
But uncle Rico Leeds are not yet promoted neither are wba so how can promotion be justified based on what. So how can you take a promotion snap shot at an arbitrary point in time.

Look at us and charlton they are bottom 3 we were there before them.

Void the season is the fairest method.
