EU companies warned of 700,000 job losses in no-deal Brexit

During the 80s despite record unemployment the Tories shut down most of the heavy engineering and BL plants, we still imported Japanese and European cars like they were going out of fashion.
It will happen again, we haven't the manufacturing base to serve ourselves , plus these Brexit first people wont exclusively buy British.
Just like the people then , they wont give two flying .... about anybody but themselves.

1. It was a political statement. You can't regress every political statement back to 'experts', though I wish you could!
2. You never mentioned it, doesn't stop it from being true.
3. You've already moved from "a million" to half a million. 1st link: Treasury analysis had proven to be pretty accurate. When compared to if it had been a remain vote (again, you can only go off 'expert' predictions), much of what they said had taken place. 2nd link: "Labour politicians warn... after leaving the EU".

Do you really think a normal 'man on the street' can have as much authority on a subject as an expert in that field who has studied and experienced it?

1. Yes you can. All ministers are advised. Chief Scientific Advisors for example. You don't think the likes of Boris and his cabinet come up with all their ideas do you?
2. Ive no idea what you mean by that statement
3. My post says "up to" a million. That was just one article i picked from a google search which half way down mentions economic experts. You said they never said it and that article shows they did.

Ok, so I'm taking from this that you think all political decisions are not dependent on ideology and they just rely on independent advisors, and that you think 'so-called experts' (I hate that belittling phrase btw) have no more expertise than any random person.

Fair enough if that's your opinion, though I don't agree with it.

Right, I'm off to fix my gas boiler. I'm not an expert, but what harm can it do, right?

The biggest single impact of brexit will be the break up of the union, unfortunately.
That would be a good thing for England - we pay Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland £770 million PER WEEK - that's around £3 Billion a month or £36 Billion per year

Scotland are also wrecked because...... "On September 9, Shetland Council voted 18-2 (with two members absent) to support a motion to explore options for achieving “financial and political self-determination” for the islands." - that's pretty much 'Scotland's Oil' gone

Thirdly Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland's population is around 6/7 Million combined - North West England has more people.

Let them get on with it....

I don't agree Juninho, I think the break up of the union would be a disaster for the UK. Scotland is a net contributor to the UK tax revenues, they subsidize England, not the other way round.

If Shetland Isles were independent then the figures would change, obviously, as would an independent Scotland, as England would wrangle over oil revenues.

But to even think Scotland is a drain on Westminster finances is clearly wrong.

We pay them? You say.
Why stop there - we could divide up England. Why should '"we" subsidise some regions.
Oh.. I think we might be living on the wrong side of the line. Oops.

Because England as we know it today.... has been a nation since around the 10th Century ;)

You mean like this....

"Scotland’s notional deficit stood at £12.6bn or 7% of GDP, including North Sea oil revenues, compared with the UK’s total £23.5bn deficit, which includes Scotland’s figure. The UK deficit is equivalent to 1.1% of its GDP.

Total state spending in Scotland was £1,661 higher per person than the UK average at £75.3bn, while tax receipts were £307 less per head than the UK average, at £62.7bn. Excluding oil revenues, the deficit exceeded £14bn, equal to 22.5% of tax revenues."

Are you suggesting England should return to its borders in the 10th century? That would necessitate modern day England to be broken up.
No i'm saying we've been established as a country with these borders since around the 10th Century - so the future of England is hardly at risk

That is an interesting take Juninho, and it is correct. The tax revenue in Scotland per person is greater than in England, and significantly more. Scotland's defecit shows higher than England's for a couple of reasons. Firstly the way oil revenue is sliced. If you slice it at the geographical border it makes a large positive difference to Scotland's GDP and secondly because Scotlands GDP is much less than England. That does not change the fact that Scotland is a net contributor to the UK's finances.

Since 1980, Scotland has paid over 200 billion more in taxes, per capita than England.

You are just wrong Juninho.

One area where you may be right, inadvertently is the fact the oil revenues are reducing year on year, and eventually Scotland will be a drain on the UK, all other things staying the same, which is a big if.
