EU Commission silent as Germany buys own vaccines

According to Peston AZ had a deal done with Germany, the Netherlands, France and Italy to supply vaccine as far back as June.

The agreement was announced but the EU commission stepped in and insisted that it and it alone should conduct negotiations on behalf of the EU as a whole. This resulted in further wrangling that delayed the deal a further two months and was signed at the end of August despite their being no changes to the terms of the deal already agreed with Germany and the other three nations.

But for the intervention of the commission in wasting two months on a deal that had already been struck these three countries would now be in a more advanced position with the roll out of their vaccines.

A source pro EU source at AZ was quoted as saying “I understand brexit better now.

All of the above is on Peston’s timeline as of four hours ago.

For what it’s worth I’ve never been his biggest fan his delivery makes me want to put me foot through the roger mellie.

If that all turns out to be true, which it probably is if Peston is confident enough to post publicly, then some heads are going to roll at the EU

And if the wealthiest nations of Europe (Great Britain included) bought all of the vaccine supply, what would happen to the rest?

With their sovereignty
If the members of the EU had committed to the Commission's proposal to acquire vaccines as a bloc and distribute them among those members, then why would they, especially the poorer nations who would benefit from the power the EU has to negotiate price reductions, as we know happened with Belgian price leaks. It's not as simple for those countries as you're presenting it.

Actually I would counter that view that it was also a lack of at accepting that there are are flaws and issues within the EU that led to this dogmatic approach of black and white polarisation over the issue.
That article is from an EU based news site specialising in EU stories, not some eurosceptic rant site and not sensationalist and it even has quotes attributed to proves it accuracy.

and yet you dismiss it as as anti Eu brexit propaganda when it’s the exact opposite.

the lack of any form of reasoned debate on both sides is why the brexit vote was so deeply flawed.
I don't think I have ever argued that the EU is flawless or that there aren't issues within it's framework and policy so not sure what you're getting at?

My response was to HundredRoom and his typically flippant remark of Germany = EU = Germany which is untrue, a complete simplification of reality but exactly the kind of soundbite that the few used to fool the many.

Sorry CTC it was only the UK that was told it couldn’t. Take a wild guess by who?
But we could and we did as were were still subject to the same EU rules until the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020, that's why we got vaccines and why we got EU consent to administer them as an emergency measure. Any other EU country could have done the same but they decided not to for political and technical reasons, not legal ones.

I didn’t mean the EU kuepper I’m talking about those some put in charge to get brexit done .

I wasn’t referring to You per se but a general point that there was really very little discourse on either side hence the polarity we saw at the err poles.
