ESports

I didn’t realise this was happening - the know some people complain about Darts and other similar activities being classed as sports. (Personally I feel darts is as mentally demanding and requires great levels of skill - it’s a sport for me. Bit this……what’s your opinions?

I can see that there are definitely skills required like reaction times, problem solving etc, but you wouldn't place chess and su doku competitions in the programme, would you?

I've never been able to enjoy watching other people playing games, so I personally don't get it.

My mates do though, and there's definitely a huge market for it.

I love Esports, I get why some people don’t but I guess it’s like anything really, I don’t understand why people enjoy watching cycling but it’s each to their own.

The Apex Legends ALGS tournament over the last few months has been brilliant. Valorant is a good watch too. Fortnite at its peak was absolutely fascinating, especially when it got to end game, those kids are computing so much going on in such a small space. Competitive Fortnite has been on the slide for a while now though.

I think firstly, they're not necessarily grouping it together with more traditional sports - hence the eSports branding of it

Secondly, there is a huge market for it as demonstrated by the number of people who currently watch it both in a competitive setting and a more recreational setting.

I used to be a pretty big gamer and have actually played in some "eSports" games at a fairly low level (qualified online to compete in an in-person qualifier - maybe similar to a lower league team reaching the FA Cup 3rd round? Not really sure) - and it is a competition in the same way as anything like football is... there are huge levels of preparation, tactics, communication, teamwork, individual brilliance, and luck that go into these games and people who like them will appreciate it and people who don't, won't. We can all appreciate a simple looking pass that cuts out 4 opposition players and puts a striker through on goal (not that we see it much!!), whereas my wife only really realises something has happened when a goal is scored - horses for courses.

I don't see it as any different to any sport really, and although I don't really watch any eSports these days I have watched a fair few "world championship" matches live, with serious money on offer. Not everyone has to like everything.

That’s my issue I get the enjoyment of those playing it, but why would I want to Watch what is effectively fake football.

I may as well watch a demo game on fifa.

This makes no sense, it's like saying the snooker cue does the work or the bow does the work in archery.
No I’m saying you can manipulate ( cheat in effect) in some games where’s as in reality that wouldnt be an option.

IE say kick strength in something like madden it’s easy to time that to perfection as the computer program has limitations that once you know can’t be beaten.

I didn't actually click on the link until just now and saw the games they mentioned. The level of skill required to play Dota and Rocket League at a high level is absolutely insane, they're two of the biggest skill gap games you can play. I've played Rocket League on and off for years, when I commit a bit of time to it I can usually get to Platinum 2 in the competitive leagues and I'm alright at the game, there are 8 divisions above that and I can't even dream of doing some of the stuff the people in the higher tiers can do, much less the actual professional players.
