England very poor so far

I don't see the point in dragging this back up. The post was a response to that performance against Scotland.

Facts:
1. The performance against Scotland was totally $hit and unacceptable from a team with so much attacking talent. Not one shot on target
2. Kane and Sterling (amongst others) were very poor in that game. In fact Kane's overall game has been poor up until the goal against Germany.
3. England results have improved. They had to. Hanging on to a 0-0 against a team ranked 40 places below England is like Boro hanging on for a 0-0 against Hartlepool.

Are people really trying to excuse that performance as if it was somehow part of a greater master plan that they could see ?

Oh surprise surprise you don't see the point of it being dragged up...
Here's your response when someone suggested we could win the tournament...

"win the tournament"

Oh so you do think that performance against Scotland was good ?

btw. Last time I checked we hadn't won it. We haven't played Italy yet.

Sorry to say but our boring backwards-sideways-backwards-sideways, tippy-tappy, "to me, to you" football won't cut it against the one outstanding attacking team in the competition.

Like you, I could be wrong. Unlike you, I won't be back to gloat about it !

(Who the fcuk am I kidding, of course I will :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:)

Haha make hay while the sun shines 👍😆

I am going to hit the ignore button next to your name your the first. Bringing a thread back out of context is trollish behaviour. the thread was on the Scotland match not the tournament as a whole.
I didn't bring it back @Nobby_Barnes did and several others commented before I did. I'm clearly rent free in your head if you have to blame me for it and throw ridiculous assertions at me, while being too cowardly to engage like an adult. Lack of communication with you won't be a loss

The ONE outstanding attacking team? Italy AND Spain have shown a flair for that tbh.

Come on you two, I don't want to be the guy that comes between you and makes you split up... Please don't make me live with that sort of guilt.
I don't mind if you put me on ignore Glover it will be a novelty 👍😁

Haha it was you that started this embarrassment of a thread Glover Elbow....you should be ashamed of yourself reading it back and ignore yourself !
He's too much of a coward to accept he was acting on emotion not thought, and his emotions blinded him to the reality that Southgate is now an extremely good coach, tactically and emotionally.

I didn't comment on this thread as an attack on anyone specifically, not sure why he thinks it was about him, other than some kind of entrenched paranoid stubborn mindset.

His key issue with me, is that I was right about Southgate and England, and he can't deal with that like an adult.

I'll admit I was wrong with my knee jerk reaction after a poor performance against Scotland. Gareth seems to know more about football tha me, which is a good thing being as he's England manager
England is always their cup final, they always raise their game. I can't remember us ever hammering them. We should have been able to win it, and we didn't quite get things right that day, but it was a slight stumble not a fall. When it comes to England passions can push people to superlatives and emotional reactions. It was our toughest game so far and that's credit to Scotland for the energy they put into it.

Scotland played above themselves, like they often do against us. It was their cup final. Players didn't make the right decisions at decisive moments, but we still were in control rarely threatened and were not 'hanging on'. Could/should we have done better? Of course. Were we utterly terrible? of course not.

Well maybe I set the bar a bit higher than what England served up in that game.

A bit hit &miss with Spain, but Italy attack relentlessly and they can also defend.

I agree with this, my reaction after the Scotland game was very much this is the most dire and insepid performance I have seen from England team since Iceland in the last euros. Playing the formation we did and tbe style we did led me to believe that under Southgate there was not a hope in hell we could do anything at the tournament.

Im pleased beyond belief to be proved wrong but in my defence I was drawing on the experience gained of watching the boro get relegated under Gareth in which he never seemed to change his mindset and got found out.

I now accept that international football is completely different to club football and having a system whereby you only need not to lose for 7 games is the way to go.

I'm sure whatever system we go with against Denmark will be thoroughly thought out and will prove to be successful and if it isn't then so be it.

remember that was more than a decade ago, he hadn't even started his badges and he had the finances pulled from under him. You shouldn't judge an experienced coach by what he did early in his career. Bobby Robsons first season was a rubbish relegation at Fulham, Peligrini had a below mediocre record for 7 or 8 seasons long before leading Man City to the title, and Wenger had a 28% win rate at Nancy over 3 seasons before getting sacked.

Don't forget the Man U fans wanting Fergie out in his first season too....
