England v Wales

Anybody watch it?

Feisty game with lots of edge. England deserved the win and the red game was debatable. I completely agree with Eddie Jones on it.

England have finally got the World Cup Final out of them now.

The red certainly changed the game as it gave wales the advantage and they duly scored the tries to match.
I thought it was shoulder as well not head/neck.

I have no problem with the yellow. England were warned so can't complain. The red though. It goes against the approach for the World Cup.

There was mitigating circumstances; the tackling player has to lead with the shoulder then wrap the arms. How else do you tackle someone from that angle? Manu was attempting that very thing.

The situation was exactly like the one against NZ in the World Cup. There was no red card then.

No attempt to wrap with the arms, it was a straight red with no quibbles. England were poor and not out of trouble from the world cup. Wales have played poorly every game, England scrapping the win is no sign they are back on track.

Sport is about opinions and I completely disagree with your assessment. At least we're both Boro fans though.

True he didn't attempt to wrap his arms. However North was halfway to the floor having been already tackled. Yellow at best.

Really really odd match. England sort of cruised it. Comfortable three point win. Not sure if I'm happy with it or not. Still: the triple crown and the Calcutta cup might end up being the only trophies given out in this year's six Nations. Good to have them in the right hands. Also ALWAYS a pleasure to beat Wales.

And a fairly fit Wales. They can't even use missing Biggar as an excuse.

Kind of disagree with this. His right arm never ever goes up, no attempt to wrap. It's the fact North is halfway to the ground that means it shouldn't have been a red. I do wonder if, given Norths history of concussion, that was taken into account? If so I guess you can't really complain.

England were in control, very good performance overall barring a couple of lax moments and poor discipline.

backrow were superb and shut Wales down.

England controlled it but a clear red card with no attempt to tackle.
Completely disagree. I know we are not doing a "wordl cup" style protocol but the fact North was nearly on the floor is clearly a mitigating circumstance. People don't always get yellow carded for a no arms tackle. I can see why Manu should have in this case but a red? No, he didn't aim for the head.

He'll hopefully get a 6 week ban. Clearly thought it was a cheap shot because it was in the middle of a tackle but a shoulder barge into the head is not allowable under any circumstances, particularly as there was no excuse he was trying to tackle him.

Hopefully Jonathan Davies gets back to playing at the highest level again as he's Wales' most important player to make line breaks.

I'm honestly shocked you'd want him to get a ban. Did you only watch the tackle in slow motion? Watch it in real time, the thought is clearly to barge him out of play. Tuliagi is guilty of nothing more than poor techinque. I hope the RFU appeal and get the card downgraded to a yellow.

As an aside I thought the Marler grabbing AW-J in the plums was hilarious. Especialy his cheeky smile to the camera. Kind of defused the fight

I think he's generally a tough but an honest player but the English tactics were to hit every player with two men. He'd have got away with it if the tackle wasn't already almost over. Poor technique doesn't justify a shoulder to the head.

The England players seem to have no qualms with the decision. Link

Nothing wrong with hitting every player with two men. A legitimate tactic that has as many risks as it does advantages. Are you welsh perchance? Starting to sound like a bad loser.
Ok I will say one thing, watch the tackle again in REAL-TIME. Have a look at the situation when Manu goes in for the tackle: if you honestly think he aimed for the head, tell me why you’d expect the head of a six foot four inch man to be a foot off the ground?

It's legal unless the second player gets there late as was the case this time. Having played rugby for 28 years, it's not in the spirit of the game I was brought up to play. The England players accept it for what it was. North was gracious as malice wasn't intended but that doesn't excuse the incident.

Wow. We are way off our expectations here. I’m genuinely shocked. I understand the head injury protocols are a lot tighter now but up until three years ago Manu would have stayed on the pitch and we wouldn’t be having this debate.

ok so you believe what you believe and I respect that but I’m genuinely shocked a rugby fan would think that tackle was bad enough to warrant a red and a six match ban.

At least referees and the players agree with me. I'm shocked that a fan would think differently. Players have a responsibility for other players. That is the least of my expectations. It has always been a hard game, probably harder now than when I started playing, but it should never be dangerous. I was brought up to never tackle above the waist; the game has evolved and the tackle laws are there for a reason.
