England v Israel U21 Euro semi-final

I know we won 3-0, but for the quality that exists in this team, it should have been much more. At times they looked devoid of ideas. There is no way we shouldn't walk this competition really. Again, I realize that we are in the final, but I'm not sure what Lee Carsley has done to warrant being in charge, this team must be worth more that most in the Championship, and I don't think any Championship club would employ him. I'm not entirely sure why the full England manager couldn't manage both teams, TBH. Then again, Southgate would probably **** that up too.

Fair comments, and that’s why we shouldn’t pay too much attention to the U21 games. As for Carsley, I think he got his chance and while the competition lacks quality and maybe media coverage Carsley is going in the right direction with his coaching career you feel.

We were playing against a team that absolutely refused to press and just sit in a low central block. It’s pretty tough to break that down but we won comfortably in the end.

I wouldn’t say we should win the competition easily, there will be plenty of other excellent players in it, and Spain always put out a good youth side.

This just stinks of arrogance and a superiority complex…Southgate hasn’t screwed anything up either, we don’t have the best squad in Europe so the idea we should walk the euros or World Cup is equally deluded.

I agree that Carsley has done nothing to earn this job, but England u21 manager is a job that rarely attracts a manager that isn’t a novice or a has been.

IMHO, I don't think it's arrogance. Croatia, Italy and even Portugal beat us with better tactics, not better players. That has to rest with the manager, surely?

When did Portugal beat us? Or Italy for that matter. Unless you mean when they beat us 1-1.🙄

What rests with the manager is turning us from the laughing stock of international football losing to Iceland and finishing bottom of our qualifying group behind Costa Rica, to finalists and semi finalists and a team who genuinely look like potential tournament winners. He’s also won more knockout games at tournaments than something like his previous 10 predecessors put together.

Edit-Seriously you think Croatia beat us with inferior players in 2018?
Our midfield was Henderson, Dele Ali and Jesse Lingard. Theirs was Modric, Rakitic and Brozovic.
Southgate would have to have done a deal with Beelzebub himself to beat them with that midfield.

They also had Perisic and Mandukic who played for top teams at the time. In 2018 Croatia had 4 or 5 players with Champions League Final experience, whereas we only had Henderson who only played in a CL Final weeks before the WC.

They all had better defensive players than we did and decent attackers.can’t remember Portugal? Croatia some absolute world class players in that side, we were in transition and had a CM of Lingard and Alli which is really fragile but it was the best we had at the time. Italy both teams nullified each other to a draw.

It was quite a boring game tbf, the opponents were very poor. They did literally nothing until the last ten mins
But I'd agree with your synopsis of England. They were very slow, devoid of ideas, quality wasn't great. Yep they're U21s so they will evolve but it wasn't a great watch and there were no stand out performances. One would expect to see a few decent players that we could look to incorporate in to the England squad soon, and nobody really stood out

We win 3-0 away to reach a competition final but people aren’t happy…make it make sense 🤷‍♂️
Fair point. I'm not unhappy but the opposition was poor, and there wasn't much to get excited about by England's performance throughout the game.

They were petrified to come out of their shape, tried to bore us into submission. Tried to stifle the game, they failed. I mean even a goal down they refuse to press our defence. It was embarrassingly negative, but we can only play with the space they afford us. If they had dared to come out we could have scored 6 or 7.

It'll be a different test with Spain, we will have to defend the space between the lines well, be compact ourselves and be clinical on the break.
