England v Hungary 7:45pm

What about that side with Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Cole, Scholes, Rooney, Ferdinand, Terry etc?
agreed completely, the sides between about 98 and 2014 were full of more top quality players than this one. Just look at 2001 vs Germany and 2022 vs Germany

Seaman or Pickford
G Neville or Walker
Ferdinand or Stones
Campbell or Maguire
A Cole or Trippier
Gerrard or Philips
Scholes or Rice
Barmby or Sterling
Beckham or Saka
Heskey or Kane
Owen or Mount

I'd pick 8 of that 2001 team without a doubt. This is nowhere near the most talented team or squad ever.

We have been bad for 4 games in a row in the lead up to a World Cup. And he plays people out of position. Of course he’s gonna get the majority of the blame.
Befoe kick off did you see a 0-4? Nope neither did anyone else. That team in those positions should have acquited themselves much better than they did. All teams get spanked occassionally.

There is no way that the fa sack Southgate and equally, no way he resigns.

It’s a glorified friendly. I wouldn’t say Germany was poor.

It's not a friendly, claiming it is because you don't agree with the competition doesn't make it one.

Germany was horrific, we scraped a point against the odds.

The 0-0 against Italy is the only match where we were arguably the better team.

We've been outclassed by Hungary twice in a row.

I don't see how you can lay this on Southgate. Evey single player was useless tonight. I am not sure how a manager legislates for that
Agreed. Some absolutely stinking performances tonight from big players, the manager can’t take the blame for individual mistakes or off performances.

It’s still 4 games though in the build up to a World Cup. 4 games where you want to see something to build on going into the World Cup, instead everyone feels negative and we have played some of the worst football we have in a long time and the manager is playing right backs left back and continues to pick people who aren’t doing it for England such as Phillips. It’s worrying.

How is that an argument?

Of course nobody saw us losing 4-0 to Hungary at home, but we did, the fact it's unexpected doesn't mean that Southgate gets absolved from it.

It's our worst home defeat in 94 years.

It’s a glorified friendly in the same way you get daft friendly tournaments like the Emirates Cup in the summer, it’s replaced the usual friendlies where you would test out players or tactics.

I don’t think they will sack him either but what it has done is massively ramped up the pressure on himself and the team ahead of the World Cup. I will say it again, we are approaching the beginning of the end. Something feels off.

The idea that people are calling for Southgate's head after these past few friendlies is laughable 🤯

Also drew with Germany and Italy - those results obviously don't count? Performances weren't great but still got draws.

Of course he can. He’s been coaching them for the last fortnight and before. He picks the team. If anyone knows if they are ready or if they are up for it, it is surely him.

Picking players who are unfit and playing players in positions that they’ve never played before is a sign that the manager doesn’t know what he’s doing.

individual errors tonight. Saying that, I do think he pandered to the ignoramuses who keep saying he needs to stop playing 2 defensive midfielders and 'let the handbrake off'. This is international football, good players all over the pitch, you have got to have a base to play from. He should have stuck to his guns with the two CDMs.

To be fair I remember being at the two warm up games at the riverside last summer and we were crap in both of those games, scoring just one goal against Austria and Romania.

Then we got to a penalty shootout from winning the Euros. So I don’t worry that much about the games before a tournament, it’s what happens at the tournament that counts.

I even said it before the game, Reece James at left back. Mental.

the only players out of position are LB, and there are reasons for that.
