England Under 21s

Why don't they just call it the U23s then. That's essentially what it is

Because then you'd have to allow under 23s in at the start of qualifying who by the end will be around 25. And you'd be complaining about why it wasn't called the under 25s? And we'd be back at the same problem again. Adding in the under 27s etc.

The actual final competition is every two years so there will always be leeway of 2 years on top of the age group by the time it has finished.

Why don't they just say at the time of any particular game the player has to be age 21 (+364 days) or under? Or even 20 +364 as the age group U21 suggests. Players will age throughout, any that turn older need to be replaced.

Because it punishes a player used in qualifying. They take part in the early stage but don't get to the actual Championship and the opportunity to win a medal. Plus it negates the point of qualifying. If you are supposed to have the best teams in the finals and now the sides are completely different - what was the point in the earlier rounds?

So? They aren't representing themselves, they are representing their country.

As for qualifying, just make the process not last several years. If a country wants to keep the same team in a tourney that played in qualifying just make sure you pick players eligible for when you might need them.

At senior level a player may play in qualifying but not be selected for the tourney squad, that's just the way it goes.

Ask yourself if you'd bother taking part if you knew in a few months you'd no longer be able to take part in the actual competition. Or if you'd put the effort in during a must win game knowing that you won't be able to play anymore and you've got an important league game for your club in 3 days. You might get injured so why take the risk of that challenge with the goalkeeper or crunching 50 - 50 that would put you team through on goal if you win the challenge.

When do you propose they fit those games into the calendar to streamline it? It's usually about 10 games in a group. I take it you're happy to lose Archer, Ramsey and Hackney from Championship games so they can go off and play a few matches before they're kicked out and someone else takes part?

I'm surprised this really has to be explained.

Ok no need for the tone mate. I don't really care about age restricted football as much as you clearly do.

All I say is that it should be an honour to play for your country rather than a burden.
