England squad do you support Southgate’s stance ?

With news fodden and greenwood out and maguire in.

do you think Gareth is right to token ban these two ( as he readily admits they will be back next time around) or do you think it’s madness to weaken the national team for a token gesture?

Unfortunately Maguire is one of the best we currently have. The other 2 are a penny a chuck to replace

But what benefit is their omission as they will def be in the next squad anyway so what’s the point.

tokenism for me and the only thing it does is weaken the national team.

They broke the rules whilst on England duty that is a key difference surely to Maguire.
I think it is absolutely right that they are not picked for the next squad, they let everyone down and in times of COVID what they did was unsafe.

They are dropped for all 3 though - against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.

I wouldn’t call the Belgium game a nothing game.

I bet Belgium are delighted

They already missed a game though that’s the point so what is this doing.

They missed a game because they breached the covid secure bubble, which then made it impossible for them to play without putting the rest of the squad at risk. Not being selected this time around is their punishment for that breach.

To be honest I can't believe this is even debatable. If Southgate fails to take action against players guilty of serious misconduct, then any authority he has will quickly be eroded.

As for Foden and Greenwood, hopefully this hurts them and they learn from it. Knowing that they won't simply walk back into the squad if they misbehave in future should ultimately be to their benefit.

Absolutely.

Neither should be starting for England anyway, and they completely ****ed up on their first cap.
It sends a necessary message.
I'd not select them in November either.

That’s different though if you are banning them for a prolonged time fair enough that’s punishment but to ban them for these games and say they’ll def be back in the next squad seems a bit wishy washy.

Sorry to say but friendly internationals bore me rigid so I couldn't give a toss who's in and who's not in to be honest. Just my opinion!

For a start, he hasn't said they will definitely be in the next squad, just that they will have served their punishment and will be available for selection based on form. I don't see what is wishy washy about that. They broke the rules and their punishment is to be excluded from consideration for the following set of games. Call it an internal suspension. Once that suspension is served, they will rightly be selected or not on merit.

I really don't see why anyone would have a problem with an international manager disciplining players that step out of line, while leaving the door open for them to return to the fold after they have served their punishment.

I’m not a fan of this Foden lad, he looks like an arrogant fecker to me and quite possibly led greenwood astray being the elder.
not sure what he brings to England or Citeh.
I think pep will sell him after this season, he’s no replacement for his darling boy Silva
