England hammered by Aussies

It's looking more and more like the penny has dropped for Livingstone..... Taking the responsibility to build an innings (was much as you can in T20) and not to try and hit everything out of the ground..... He's a top talent!

This is the problem that those for whom county-based cricket based on the Victorian boundaries seems instinctive (and I am one) struggle to address. Cricket backed the wrong horse. Towns, boroughs and cities have survived as units of local government and identity as counties largely have not. Only six of the county grounds are in an area administered by a county council sharing the name of the cricket club (and in the case of two of those six, Trent Bridge and the Utilita Bowl, it’s because they’re not actually in the cities we think they are in).

You see it in the Boro/ Yorkshire debate on here. You’d have to be in your sixties to be from Middlesex at all and you’d have to be in your 130s if you were actually from St John’s Wood. The idea that a kid from Tower Hamlets can’t identify with a team called “London” but could identify better with one called “Middlesex” is so obviously laughable it shouldn’t need comment.
It's not about administration of a county though, otherwise we'd have 4 crap teams in the Teesside area having a go with few following.

We all have town teams if we wish to follow them, and because cricket isn't a popular sport (spectator attendance wise) the county is enough to take us to the next level. And then on to national level when all of a sudden the football fans get involved
