ENG v IND 2nd test

Pope , Crawley & Bashir need to go. Plus stokes needs to respect the toss. We should have batted first & put runs on the board.

Vaguely interesting quiz question - since 1900, who is the only England captain to have have a higher test match win percentage than Ben Stokes?

I just hope some useful lessons are learned after this defeat.

Taking risks and playing front-foot cricket is great and I'm a fan of a lot of the things the coaching set up does, however choosing to bowl in the heat on an absolute road will lead to a defeat more often than not and I can't imagine its gone down particularly well with the bowlers.

If we lose the Ashes as a result of poor decision making or arrogance I think the knives will be out.

Jadeja comes on to bowl.
Smith is facing.
Commentators tell you, no help at all in pitch for Jadeja against Smith (RH) but loads of rough when he is bowling at Stokes (LH).
So first ball Smith takes a single.
Brainless cricket.
Runs don’t matter, survival is the name of the game.

Siraj isn't coming across as a most endearing of characters. The rest of the Indian team seem to be playing in the spirit of the game, with a friendly demeanour and smiling.

I would say Carse should play at Lords…. He has bowled well at times without help from the pitch. There is a huge risk to go with Atkinson, Archer and Stokes as part of a four given injury records….. but those three and Carse would be my choice. I see little point in playing Bashir if the plan is to bowl first. That makes no sense.

Actually listening to Butcher on Sky this morning - Liam Dawson should be in the team, but they won’t happen.
From what I’ve seen of Carse I actually think he’ll do really well in Australia - hits the deck hard, full effort.

It’s interesting how we’ve ended up with loads of genuine express pace bowlers who can crack 90mph but can’t swing it on a cloudy day in Birmingham and can’t bowl more than 12 overs. The second one is the one I’m worried about.

Going to put a real outside name to replace Bashir out there Ben Kellaway. This kid could be something really special. He can bowl left and right arm spin and is also a cracking bat. It’s probably to early for him but he must be on England’s radar already.
