🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Thing is it's only just dropped to those levels and I believe they need a period of stability for prices to see meaningful drops, at least this is a start anyway.

Octopus tracker is definitely trending down but it is slow and it's spring so lower gas usage

Our MTD figures we've used £67 elec and £21 gas so far this month - £88. On epg it would have been £107 elec and £46 gas; £153. £65 saved so far. 42.48% savings.

Using the new rates, we would have paid £100.16 elec and £35.91 gas so £136.07; octopus tracker currently 35% cheaper than the new cheaper govt rates
Yeah I think it works on a delay of circa 6 months, as the energy is bought well in advance. So in 6 months' time we should get much more of a benefit, as that is effectively already baked in. But if they are appearing to go up again I bet the rate given isn't the one according to where supplies were at.

The price we're paying per MWh is well on the way down now too, £50 was where it was at from 2012-2020.

I'll be getting on that tracker as soon as I can.

Late to the party on the this, but my fixed with BG ends in about a month so definitiely going to go on the waiting list and see whats what. Currently payng about £250/month 😭
Once your rate expires I'd move over, if it's beneficial. it takes a bit to move over anyway. A friend joined today and goes live 16/6 but it depends on suppliers and what meters you have.

Check what your fix unit rates are as if lower than epg, you can usually leave within 49 days of a fix ending without paying exit fees. If not lower, get on the waiting list asap to reduce the lag time between your fix ending and the tracker opening up a spot

Just had a look and the quote I got was £204/month. Its certainly cheaper than what I'm paying!
Ignore dd amount mate; look at unit rate and standing charge

Multiply each standing charge by 365 and multiply your usage by the unit rate for each fuel, add up and divide by 12 - that's roughly what your dd should be

Then replace the figures with octopus and that's a direct comparison

Is the Tracker tariff called flexibleOctopus?
Standard tariff is flexible octopus so this is the same as any other supplier's EPG / price cap tariff

The process of you aren't with octopus is;

Join octopus, get £50

Once you have an account, you join the tracker using this page to join the waiting list;

If not with octopus, and not ready to join eg on a fix then you can join the wait list using second link and move over when a slot opens up

How will this tracker look compared to the standard tariff when the price cap drops?
See below , the savings are still significant and trending down

Remember the price cap is 2k for average user but many use more than those estimates work out at

This is a long thread but I noticed this and wasn't sure it's been mentioned in an update (I'm not reading every one of them)...

"Do I need a smart meter?
It helps but if you don't have one, they'll still put you on it but use an average figure each month. A smart meter can provide reads daily or even half hourly so you always know what you've spent but it's not necessary"

It is now...

"You'll need a working smart meter to switch to Tracker. If you don't have one yet, we can install one at no extra cost, but you'll need to stick with a standard tariff, such as Flexible Octopus, until your smart meter is installed and running properly (this usually takes a few weeks – but some homes can take much longer)."

Just for those who may not know.

They're really quick to install one but good to know, as some people don't like them.

I put my name on the waiting list (currently with EDF) just received email to say I can join the tracker tariff in July.

Yeah few friends have had the same to confirm 👌🏻

Once you join, you can apply a referral code in the "my account" section rather than joining via a referral link. That ray you still get the £50 credit 👌🏻 mine is azure-thyme-228
