šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

It's been great so for me. Saving 30% at least.

Saying it's a scam is like saying a box of Eggs on offer for Ā£1.50 instead of Ā£2 is a scam because a year ago they were Ā£1 a box everywhere.

The big question is - how long does it take to switch from the tracker to the standard tariff? It's great if it's immediate but if it takes a month to get through to Octopus and longer to get the tariff switched then you could lose big time.

Bear in mind just about every customer will be trying to switch if the wholesale price noses upwards.

You can phone them or tweet them and it's pretty much same day

Prices would have to absolutely rocket to go above epg rates as epg discount kicks in once you hit the level of epg so you have additional cushion

They didn't go anywhere near that for December so unless Putin nukes Ukraine or something it shouldn't be a problem.

They say on their email info that if you request via email they will give you the rate from the day you request, not the day it gets actioned so even if it takes a week they should back date it.

I'm fortunate enough to have a pre-increase madness tarrif until Sep but have been really impressed with octopus over the past couple of years and wanted to switch to them for a while.

Will monitor this closely

I take everyone is switching their gas and electric onto the tracker? Or is it just the Gas everyone is switching?

I've done both, it makes sense, please use the above link gets us both Ā£50 if you decide to switch.
Thanks

I've done both. I have an EV and it's probably not much different for me to be on the Tracker or the EV tariff. Roughly 50% of my electricty use is EV charging. Current rates are:
1. Price Cap 34p
2. Tracker 26p
3. Octopus Go - 42p peak, 12p off peak

3900KwH EV, 3600 KwH Other =
1. Ā£2,550
2. Ā£1,950
3. Ā£1,980

Currently slightly cheaper with the Tracker but that is with the assumption that I would be able to do 100% of my EV charging off-peak and assuming I don't switch any of my other electricity usage to overnight (dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer etc). I'm sticking with the flexibility of the tracker as they are so similar. If it was a choice between the Price Cap tariff and the EV tariff I'd go for it.

They do have another one called Agile or Intelligent (or maybe they have another 2?) where you leave your car plugged in and they charge it for you at the time of the night (or day) that is cheapest. That's 10p on the off-peak so would knock option 3 down to Ā£1900. That could be the best one but that seems like it would be more laborious making sure your other electrical items can be run at the cheap time if it's always changing every day.

Yeah a friend was the same, you'd have to be able to shift a lot of your usage to that time to get the most benefit

I've just had an email reply from Octopus stating if I choose to proceed with switch to the tracker silver flex 22-11-25 as I'm currently on the flexible rate, my DD will increase to Ā£419 from Ā£200šŸ¤·šŸ»

Have they said why?

I'd ask them on Twitter

With my old supplier GEUK I had a dd of Ā£270, when I joined octopus they set it to Ā£240 and when I joined them I changed it to Ā£200

You can set it to Ā£1 if you want as long as you're making payments I guess

I've made the switch. Tried to ring about switching to the Tracker tariff but, gave up after 10 mins on hold. Haven't got Twitter so I've emailed them.

My only concern is that I will not track the wholesale prices, become lazy, then get thumped with large bill if the prices suddenly rise.

Is there an easy way for lazy and not very technical people like me to monitor the prices?

Have you got an iPhone?

If so you can set up daily alerts

If not there are websites that list the daily price, just set up a weekly reminder
The price is unlikely to change catastrophically over a week or so
