🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

I think wholesale prices are predicted to come down much faster than the EPG/Price cap during 2023 so I think a switch to the tracker makes sense as it stands.

Im ready to transfer across to Octopus. I don't have a twitter account, can i just ring or email them to transfer me to the tracker rate. What precisely is the tracker rate called?

Anyone got a referral link, maybe one that hasn't been used? Spread the cash around.

Use this one buddy, help us both, thanks

You can still do that if you want though? The supplier I just left billed quarterly and if you didn't have a smart meter you would submit a reading just before.

Spend hours a day?

Any more hyperbole 😂😂 it's literally an instant alert if you want to try save some money, if you don't you just sit on svr and do nothing.
Jumping through more and more hoops for ever more diminishing returns so you get that warm fuzzy feeling because your bill is only 90% higher than it was rather than 95%. Once upon a time it was using comparison sites (before it .came out that most are rigged), now a live tracker. The consumer is being played by the corporations and the torys.

Does it physically hurt trying so hard to make it sound like more effort than it is? I'm making 20-30% savings on my bill for 0 seconds work after the initial 15 minutes set up yet you're making our like its hours work every day to save pence.

You can ring them, you can tweet them, or you can email them at hello@octopus.energy

Ringing them fastest, tweeting second fastest, email probably slowest.

Literally just called the tracker. If you ask that, they'll send you the T&C's, if you have any questions about it just ask.

So what's your argument here? That people, given the choice, should pay 20-30% more?

Any details on why it takes "hours" a day to check rates?
It's an illusion of choice. Exactly the same CH4 molecules from exactly the same source coming through exactly the same pipe. The middle-men suppliers just concoct 'deals' to fool people into thinking they are getting a deal. It's a scam.

I assume you check every time the tracker tells you. How often does it change?

Ignore him mate. You’re trying to help people and it’s a choice if people want to look into it or not.

Well I signed up last week from the OP's link, got nothing to lose and everything to gain as far as I can see.

I'm all set up now with meter readings done.

It's not an illusion of choice. It's a choice of paying SVR or paying less. Prior to this crisis I paid £67 a month while people I knew used less and paid more. That's not an illusion, it's tangible. You can either look after your money or not, I know which I will do.

I don't check anything - the price change he's daily and part of the potential to save is knowing what you pay. If you're happy paying exactly what the SVR rate says you'll pay then so that, my phone confirming for me each day that the price is still 20-30% less isn't exactly a chore, it might take you "hours" but takes anyone else 0.5 seconds? It changes literally once a day. You're making a career out of hyperbole here by implying this is actual effort.

And what is your point here? We all know rip off Britain means we pay more - are you saying it's better to just pay more than pay less?

I've posted my workings and we are on track to save £80 a month for a few "hours" work a day, and by that I obviously mean no work a day.

20 years ago people got a monthly bank statement and didn't know what was in their account without looking in a log book. Not all progress is bad, but just curious exactly what point you think you have here?

Have you got a smart meter? If not I'd suggest filling in the request form to register interest, unless you're opposed to having one.

I have registered for new smart meters, yes I do have them, but the old ones, and no one can seem to read them.
Technically smets1 meters (which is what you'll have) can now be upgraded to smets2 remotely so they should, in theory, be able to issue what is called a BSR (business service request) and it will update it, but may take a while. Again, worth reaching out on Twitter as despite some Luddites longing for quarterly bills and financial mystery; I like to know what I am in the hook for at all times and having a display that shows me that in real time is invaluable

As has been said previously in this thread, like others, I'm really impressed with the speed and efficiency from Octopus.
I applied to switch on Feb 1st. Started with them on Feb 3rd and have just switched to the Tracker tariff via a phone call this morning.
Only issue I have is with my SMETS1 gas meter which they (and previous suppliers) haven't been able to read, although the electric one is fine. Octopus are going to try and fix it and if not get me a new one.

Yeah technically all smets1 meter should be upgradable, it can take up to 2 weeks for the industry stuff to go through though so they may pick it up but ideally get it swapped out asap. You can provide manual reads and you can use your ihd to get those readings, just means the £ figure on ihd will not be correct

Also look at Hugo/bright/loop app, if your meter is reporting to the DCC you can access it via that

Paying less for those same CH4 molecules from the same source has to be one of the better scams I have come across.

Yes the way the market is organised in this country sucks, big time ... it needs massive reform ... but, switching to a better deal within the system we currently have to operate in is hardly a scam is it ? or should we all cut off our noses to spite our faces and pay more than we need to out of principle ?
