Would be an absolutely disastrous choice of leader I’m afraid. There is no way she would connect with people in the way that is required.

Interesting how the ex durham police chief is on question time as a symbol of getting it right and yet only across the border we have to endure the joke Shop that is Cleveland police.

She is a big part of the London Met elite that have too much influence at the top of the Labour Party. She knows Northern towns are really struggling, but does not come up with anything specific and special to help them. They were Labour heartlands now 50% Tory.

Let me help her:

make them Enterprise Zones with lower taxes and advanced infrastructures especially broadband for businesses

lower business rates

lower council taxes

Up graded transport links

All paid for by Central Government

The payback will be increased taxes taken overall and lower welfare benefits paid, more social cohesion, less commuting to work - overall an healthy and more balanced UK society.

Weird isn't it? I totally agree with what's been written here and I'll never forget the way she came across with the white van man stuff.

But I see her due to work about once every two months. She's always outside the building toking on her fag for 20 minutes before the meeting. Always arrives on time, always the most respectful person in the room to residents and to professionals.

Very good in chasing up issues raised by her constituents (to my and my staffs detriment) and is trusted by her constituents because she has proved herself at a local level time and time again.

But she's no leader and she'll do more damage than good if she was to be voted in. Devicive for sure.

Labour need somebody with statesman like qualities. I don't want a wet blanket.
On the TV debate, Long-Bailey allowed that oily weasel Rishi Sunak to get under her skin. She was blöödy awful. If a lickspittle like him can show her up Imagine her waffling in the commons?

Anyone who could give Corbyn a 10 out of 10 on his handling of the election should be noplace close to be being leader.

I think it's dumb to have the deputy up for public vote. If Starmer wins he should pick long bailey, and vice versa. Blair knew what he was doing when he put Prescott in the job. And I don't think having a pr*ck like Tom Watson foisted upon Corbyn did him any favours.

I actually think she is a very good MP and a sharp operator but I don't think she is a leader nor someone who can unite the party.

some people rub people up....not that they mean too just they come over pompus and generally not nice....it must be difficult when your not really like that , worked with loads over the years who are good at the job but are crap communicators and cannot build a team and struggle to be part of one...

What was Blair doing? Genuinely curious as I was 15 when he made the appointment and didn't really understand stuff like that.

He chose Prescott as Deputy to get the so called 'left' onside.
Personal view ref Watson. It was a good choice but if people don't work together on a common agenda for the good of the party and country it is kind of pointless.
That's what Blair and Prescott did - worked together for a common purpose - getting elected and staying in power.

I think the north as much as the left. Prescott was ridiculed by the right wing media, but he was Northern and was old school.

Corbyn when he was elected was ferociously attacked by new labour who thought he was a dinosaur. He picked staunch allies who had a whiff of the comrade about them. Didn't help with the moderates. His decent showing at the first election stopped a number of the attacks, but then all focus moved from the manifesto to brexit which was as much of a no win scenario as you could imagine. Lose the north or lose the cities. He picked neither which was as sensible a decision as picking either side.

Labour have to grab the middle ground to get into power, its held by the Tories at present. Their recent left of centre actions suggest they want to keep it. Its also about the perception of your politics opposed to your actual politics.
