Ely crash deaths

Couple point I’d like to make:

1 - I’ve seen 3 pieces of CCTV. 2 were certainly inconclusive. 1 looked like the van was pursuing the bike (although that doesn’t mean they were).

2 - not all cops are allowed to pursue vehicles. You must undergo specialist training to do so.

3 - I know that both West Yorkshire and Durham police do not allow cops to pursue vehicles whilst driving a van. Obvs not sure if that applied to the force involved in this incident.

4 - Just because the cops were 500m away when the accident occurs, doesn’t mean they weren’t chasing them or had been chasing them only a couple of minutes earlier. Obviously when the likes of bikes / motorbikes etc go through alleys etc the police often have to go ‘the long way round’.

5 - some cops who don’t have the ‘initial phase pursuit’ training (which allows them to ‘chase’ vehicles) and cops who do but are in a van therefore not allowed to chase vehicle (in W.Yorks and Durham anyway) have been known to drive in the same direction as the ‘suspects’ whilst radioing for assistance from colleagues who are allowed to pursue vehicles. Obviously this is a bit of a ‘naughty grey area’ which if this is the case could end up landing the cops in big trouble depending on exactly what they did / didn’t do etc.

6 - Again I have no idea about SW police however in West Yorks police all of the vehicles had a device in which could show exactly where the vehicles had been, and how they’d been driven I.e speed / acceleration / braking etc. Durham does not although they have dash and which aren’t as good for a number of reasons that I cannot be bothered to explain. West Yorks also have Dash cams.

In conclusion, I have no idea if the police were chasing them. But thought I’d add the above to the debate.

Neither, I am trying to formulate an option without using personal insults. Basic principle of policing is that of reasonable force. The nature of the crime, and risk and the likelihood of causing harm to an individual. Their crime seems to be wazzing around on a bike.
Using a van to chase a bike is in my opinion excessive.
I think they know this hence why I think they are attempting to cover up.

Yeah you’re on a wind up… nobody could be that stupid.

Answer my question… what would you say is a proportionate response to two scrotes riding around on an electric bike at speed.

Once you answer have a think about how you would be if they knocked your child over as they crossed the road

The kids wanted to be chased, the footage where the police were a few meters behind was when they raced up to the van then turned.. they were looking for a thrill.. the police followed and held back with about a 50 sec gap between them.
The kids used local knowledge to evade, but came a cropper due to their immaturity…

It’s a tragedy and the only ones to blame are the parents that bought the scooter and sent their kids out on a trajectory with death.. just glad no one innocent got hurt..

We’re getting them on ingleby and people defending their right to have fun will soon change their tune when it’s their property damaged or family hurt..

Edited BBC footage of the police van behind them before turning off makes it look like they were hot on their heels… very disingenuous by the national broadcaster… obviously disappointed the rioting has finished

Yes I noticed this too. 2 clips joined together and played as one (time stamp is different ) 10+ sec difference in the 2 clips. Tragic 2 young lives lost. RIP

Thanks a lot for your comments everyone. The news reports were all very vague and of course didn't give any opinion.

The overwhelming majority of us feel the kids, sadly we're at fault.

Personally, I feel there's now too many families about where buying ebikes / motorcycles is acceptable, knowing the kids will be riding them about the estate in a dangerous manner.

Rather than rioting, folk should be proactive and report the kids to the police. They may get the bikes confiscated but life's will be saved.

Another point , the bike being ridden seems to be a throttle e-bike which is a different class in the UK to the more frequent pedal assist. Throttle bikes need registration , insurance and a licence as they are classed as a motorbike. Pedal assists are limited to about 16mph before the assist drops off and you progress on your own pedal power.

Ely is a rough old area, the riots were just an excuse to have a kick off. Suspicious amount of fireworks quickly to hand seems we are in May.
Mark Drakeford, Wales' glorious leader, has blamed Tory cuts. It's his constituency!!! He has wasted multi-millions on useless projects over the years, and tries to blame Westminster Conservatives. He's like a Ready to Go user with a ill fitting suit

eBikes - in Sydney I see kids 2 and 3 up on these things, on roads, pavements, no helmets, doing 30kms an hour (these Cardiff kids were doing 28 mph). I've ridden alongside them on my Vespa where I have strict requirements on helmet, registration, driving lic etc. There seems to be no policing for the kids, parents must buy them (they're expensive), the hospitals must be full of them. Amazed not more deaths - accidents waiting to happen.

If the police see them and do nothing they're useless, if they try to do something then they're evil bullies. The idiocy of society these days.

Riots are the result of pent up anger about life in general - nothing to do with the spark that sets them off.

They found millions to facilitate the procession of a feudal relic in a golden carriage.

Where`s the resources on every estate and in every community - without a golden carriage?
The golden carriage was paid for donkey's years ago.
