Elizabeth the Last

I don't mind a King or Queen figurehead if they modernise the whole ridiculous royal charade. The wider royal family ought to be left out of the whole thing and left to fend for themselves.

Cue the cap doffers mentioning how much money the Royals bring into this country via tourism. Turf them out of Buck Palace and turn it into a University, put all thier jewels and heirlooms on show in museums. Hereditary privelage/wealth is a disease.

If we got rid of them, how would we deal with the following.

Whose head would be on coins/notes
Would stamps have Boris's head on them.
Could I still go into the Queens Head or the Kings Arms.

Yes, agree.

Also, this is somewhere around position 7,934 on my prioritised list of things to be getting worked up about.

unfortunately the chance to abolish the monarchy was missed when some guy with a load of gunpowder was caught under the houses of parliament before he could blow the lot of them up :ROFLMAO:

Pat sharp would be the obvious replacement. If he's not up for it then some other internationally respected figure like fred dineage or Geoff capes
.

All the institutions of Britain are set-up to maintain the royal establishment. The government has prerogative powers associated with the Queen. The Queen also has personal prerogative powers and gets heads up of legislation before it becomes law. It's absolute madness that a person who is by chance born "a Queen" has that type of privilege.

Criminal Justice? Crown Prosecution Service. The Royal Courts and so.

Armed forces? All HM Armed Forces.

The Royal this, the Royal that. It's bonkers.

I have no personal truck with Liz. I can even admire or at least respect her for being there and heading up an institution and country which has changed massively in her 70 years on the throne. She hasn't always been beyond reproach, of course. The way she dealt with Prince Andrew and Diana wasn't really clever. Either way, the fact is the Royal Family is a symbol of inherited and unmerited privilege, an archaic system which is being preserved while people struggle to keep themselves fed and warm. We can keep the bank holidays (given to us thanks to Trade Unions), we can still have pubs named with Kings' and Queens' appendages, and we can still have tourists coming to see the buildings and statues from our rich history. It's not like they're going to see the Queen in person, is it? France manages it fine.

I don't like something so it should be abolished.

I don't give a fig one way or the other, but if it puts a smile on people's faces it's not a bad thing.

This board is a million miles away from the real world. It represents about .00003% of the population. To be accepted you have to be Labour, a Remainer, anti Royalist, pro Republican with a like for SF, no arguments against any of the list.

Out there outside of here people are having parties, enjoying the 70 years, they adore William his wife and children.

Why not have a referendum on it. I would love to see Labour to join the get rid grouping. They will look as daft as they did trying to change the Brexit vote.

Once the old Dear goes I'd agree, yes.
Charley is just seen as a joke, even his Mam doesn't trust him enough to give him a house key yet and he's 73 FFS.
