Elephant in the room

Jones is just not good enough for the championship.

His highlights reel from each game never exceeds 30 seconds and is virtually invisible when crooks doesn’t play alongside or with him.

The number of miss hit crosses or failing to beat the first man is so frustrating. He hasn’t progressed as a player one iota, in fact he has done backwards.

He was a passenger today.

When Jones was bang in form last season how come you didn’t mention that he wasn’t good enough for the Championship then?

Football players are human and they go through different spells of form. Some more than others. When they’re out of form, it doesn’t mean they are *****. When they’re in form, it doesn’t mean they are Barcelona material.

Jones will come good if the fans get behind him.

If he’s not a Championship player then we are in more trouble than I thought because he’s the most likely player to be involved in anything good going forward.

I’d wager he plays most of his career in the Championship or higher.

Its "big picture" time:
NOT time to call out individuals in a period when none of the players is performing consistency to the standard we know they can.
The consistently inconsistent performances by the whole team highlights a pattern of TEAM failure and approach - not just individual performances.
To understand why the team is failing - more regularly than winning - we have to look at Team Management, Recruitment and the Competence of those in charge.

Its beyond "worrying" now - Ive posted elsewhere that a magic wand would find it difficult to get a tune out of our "squad". But that`s not because they are all average and thick - that goes back to a system where we havent yet reached November - when Warnock was sacked in 2021 - and players have been Managed, trained, instructed and "coached" by THREE different Managers [including Caretakers] in under TWELVE months!

The "Elephant in the room" is the Club itself!

We have a mish-mash of a squad with promising young players, established seniors, loanees, those towards the end of their careers and bit-part players. Each has their own aspirations: for some it is to get the best deal at the back end of their careers. For younger players they still aim for the top. For those who have been here for a decent period - they will know how to keep their heads down to avoid the flack - when yet another "messiah" arrives.

Finally: our recruitment has been absolutely crap. We`ve had more loanees in recent seasons than I can remember over 40+ years. [I`m sure someone will tell me different] - but this highlights a big problem: loan players are on loan from other clubs for a reason - they dont fit in or arent up to scratch. Either way, you cant build a cohesive unit constructed out of spare parts from all over the place and keep the core of the squad happy. Just look at the revolving door since Neil Warnock arrived: can anyone list all the players we`ve had on loan since 2019? Its frightening!

someone on here yesterday reckoned he was “non-league”, so not just this division or the division below, but two below that. All because he’s had an indifferent/poor start to the season.

Ridiculous, Jones is our most dangerous player and every team knows it so they double/triple up on him.

If we played a formation that creates threats elsewhere then that will free up Jones to do the type of damage he was doing last season.

He's a confidence player who is still learning and is a pass away from being brilliant for us, although the expectations of some our fans mean if he's not Messi by Christmas then he's forever rubbish.

He’s by far our most attacking threat. He’s already scored and assisted this season in the championship. So he’s clearly good enough FOR the championship.

For the opportunities he gets his final ball has been severely lacking. he must have had double figure opportunities to deliver yesterday and either over hit it or hit the first man. If that doesn’t improve then, like most of our players he has hit his ceiling.

Most of his opportunities to cross would've had noone on the end of it, having one player to aim at the majority of the time will mean most of the time his cross's don't find their target.

The frustration is when he does the hard part then becomes complacent on the easy part. The example yesterday was taking the man on, cutting inside then under hitting a simple pass across the edge of the box.

That was pretty much everyone yesterday though.

Without doubt our most creative player who is struggling for consistency at the moment . I think he is a confidence player.

He had a fantastic spell last season and I think many people got a bit too carried away with it.

Teams prepare for him now, they know that if they nullify him they significantly reduce our attacking threat.

There is a huge amount of expectation placed on one young player.

For me, he has potential that needs to be coached…

I agree he plays best with crooks but that’s more because others don’t match crooks work ethic..

jones needs confidence and that’s hard to find in a team that’s struggling..

for me Hackney now needs to first in the sheet but jones should always be there or there abouts.. he’s definitely good enough for this league he just needs to believe it him self without thinking he’s made it and doesn’t need to try..l

Insert comment to about 80% of Premier League wingers too.

I have no problem with setting a high bar for our players, until that bar becomes a stick to beat them with.
Sorry but his crossing is really poor, premier league wingers will be head and shoulder in that department. Something he can work on though and if he develops that then he stands a chance of making it to the PL himself.

if you were at the game yesterday and are honest with yourself Jones was awful. He had 2 or 3 good moments in 90 minutes and blew them with a bad final ball / decision. I wouldn’t have him anywhere near the team if we had a half decent wide right player. Like others, his appearances are down to the paucity of talent in our squad. Not a top quality footballer for me.

Its not about beating him, its an observation. From SW corner he had opportunity 4 times to pick a free man out and either hit a defender or crossed it into the South stand. I would imagine every fan enjoys watching him do the ‘hard part’ but whats the point of it if the end product is not as good as it should be. I hope he is staying back after training to improve this aspect of his game.
