Egg shortage?

They have been moved to the broccoli aisle.
Broccoli has shot up in price this week.
6kg box has gone from £8 to £13 due to the cold weather.

Not sure about egg shortage as we get ours from Phalps Farm, always a plentiful supply.

The feedcost has risen a lot (Ukraine war etc) and some egg businesses have decided there is no profit in selling them any longer, at a loss. Some retailers have pushed up prices such as Lidl as you can still get them there. There has been some panic buying by the Public, because eggs can be stored for 6 weeks etc The porice of egg seemed have being around £1.20 for many years, now more like £1.90.

Got a surprise yesterday when I went to Tesco to get some, very few. Also a notice to say that due to avian flu the hens have had to be moved indoors so the eggs can’t be sold as free range.

Supermarkets are unilaterally driving the retail price up, whilst at the same time driving down the cost they are paying the farmers. Its not a negotiation, nor are they passing on rising costs to the consumer.

Pure profiteering, and the supermarkets would love you to believe is the cost of feed stock or the energy prices that are driving up the retail prices.

I dont imagine for one minute there is an actual egg shortage, I assume its a shortage of egg farmers willing to sell produce at a loss just to bolster supermarket profits and dividends.

There is no shortage. I believe the farmers are refusing to sell to large supermarkets due to the cost they're charging.

If you know any local egg farmers, get yourselves there and pay them a quid more for a tray of 36 eggs. I go to a place near Potto just off the A172, they charge £4 for 36 eggs but I just leave a fiver.

There absolutely isn't an egg shortage, the hens don't suddenly stop laying.

It's all driven by as you say supermarkets increasing the prices onto us, but not paying the producers any more for them. The farmers costs have increased, whether its power, fuel for their machines of cost in the feed gone up. Its only fair they get their share.
Pretty sure if you pop to your nearest farm shop they would have plenty of eggs.
