EFL salary cap

Will this just force instances like Derby & Rooney where they get the sponsor to pay part of the wage?

Surely it should be the same throughout the leagues though, unfair to bring this to just league one and two
Championship are going to discuss it. Don't hold your breath over the premier league.

Just feel it’s harsh on the ‘bigger’ clubs within the divisions. Clubs should be able to spend within there means not restricted, i also feel this will make location an even bigger factor when it comes to players decision on signing for a club. It just doesn’t sit right with me. Hope it doesn’t venture into the championship.

Hmm, well it'll keep the good players out of London probably. Fine with me :)

Bigger clubs with bigger revenues should be able to use this to their advantage surely? They do in every other league

They should be introducing caps in every other league too.

It's a cap, not a baseline, the bigger clubs will be the ones closer to the cap.

They can also still spend more on transfer fees.

I don’t know I just like the fact clubs in this area can maybe throw an extra quid or 2 at it to attract a player to the club. Now I feel if we are all working from the same wage budgets it’s gonna be difficult , it is difficult anyway but this will make it more tricky and it will suit London clubs imo. Obviously I would have to see if it turned out that way. I will be surprised if it goes ahead , the PFA have voiced their concerns and you could see clubs like Sunderland etc taking legal action.

In league 1 the average wage is £2k/week. This will encourage players to go and play in provincial areas where they can buy bigger houses etc. In these leagues. Agree that in the PL it could be a different kettle of fish.

Sunderland in financial dire straits, and a large part of that is down to their ridiculous wage bills.

They'll do well to remember that.

The only issue I have is that it's a huge drop in the proposed cap in the Championship to what has been agreed in League One.
£18m to £2.5m.
Then the fact there's no cap in the Premier League.
Ideally it would be a globally agreed limit on wages, it's unsustainable as is.

Don’t get me wrong I get the idea it’s to stop clubs from going to the wall we all know that, I just don’t know if I like the idea of this being a long term thing. I would like it to stay in league 1 and 2 before it enters championship if it does indeed come in to see what the thoughts are of the clubs.

For me, I can't see any obvious drawbacks. Even if it was in the PL, we might finally get past the stage we've been at for a few years where *very good* players would rather sit on the bench at a big club than start every week at a medium sized club.

Le Tissier at Southampton, Okocha at Bolton, and of course our very own TLF, if it was nowadays they'd all be sitting on Man City's bench. Even more so now we have 9 substitutes.

If this was introduced in the PL, you might find players going to whoever can afford to pay them the most, and it won't always be the Man City when their inn is full.
