Eddie Jones comments on public school system

I would expect the opposite - privately schooled young people normally have a higher opinion of themselves and tend to want to be in control. Certainly the more expensive schools. They may struggle when faced with situations when they are not coming off best as they are used to having the odds in their favour, but that's not leadership. They can also get a bit too over confident.

Fair point, but exuding confidence and expecting people to simply do as you say doesn't work on a sports field. You earn respect and that is the problem these top private school cockers cannot understand.

they might have the self confidence but can't back it up, too used to getting their own way in life.

You can also take these view to prime ministers who have had everything handed to them in life but when the chips are down and hard work and critical thinking and proper leadership are required revert to laziness, smoke and mirrors and a lack of analytical thinking.

Just look at the "leadership" we have in the HOC.

Leadership in sport is an interesting area - there appears to be issues nowadays finding natural leaders - didn't Brentford drop the role of captain, but we do know players like Grant Leadbitter made a difference as a captain. The same for Gareth Southgate and Tony Mowbray. GL got the players together off the pitch at a key time.

In Rugby Union I could see issues where a privately educated player does not really want to take commands off a comprehensive school player because of the English class system. The private school player may try to undermine comp school captain. The private school player would be wrong to do this. Not all privately educated are the same and the same for non private educated btw. Unfortunately our society is still riddled by the class system. Private schools do produce a lot of successful sports people, but they ahve some fantastic facilities and they filter entrants so they get the cream of ability in some sporting areas. (a talented working class child can get free/subsidided fees as we saw on Mighty Redcar TV programme).
