Durham Police say Cummings did break lockdown rules

If course he did.

I’m just glad it was Durham force as they are one of (if not) the best in the country, and were never going to risk their hard fought credibility on this.

But The Telegraph has learned an investigation by Durham Police has concluded he did commit a "minor breach" of the guidelines.

Pay wall stopped me seeing more.

Just read that both Ferguson and Calderwood who were forced out or resigned also broke lockdown rules which were interpreted as a 'relatively minor breach with no further action necessary'. The action - of course refers to Police Action.

Also shows the Attorney General doesn't understand the law which is kind of a worry.

And, presumably Emily Maitlis gets an apology from the BBC

This is significant, he broke the law. The whole defence as absurd as it is, was based on that he acted entirely within the guidelines.

This also shows the government do not understand their own laws, especially the Attorney General who should now resign for getting involved and shown to be incorrect.

The minimum Dominic Cummings should do now is apologise.

durham police have said “he may” not he has and that he committed no offence by driving from London to Durham.

So the police have not confirmed he broke the law
 
Of course it's a minor offence, punishable by a friendly word of advice in the first instance. Nobody said it was a life imprisonment job. But that's not the point, is it? He was a main player (the main player) in the drafting of the rules, millions of people observed them, some at great cost to themselves, but he just stuck 2 fingers up at everybody, crowned by his crowing performance at the audience he granted the plebs from his Downing Street garden. Politicans don't have to have committed a crime of any sort to be forced to resign and given his position neither does he. This changes nothing.
 
Cooper it is not the polices job to decide innocence or guilt. The merely report the alleged offence to theCPS along with evidence, if it is a court matter.

"Might have" is because they are not taking retrospective action in line with their policies. Read the full statement.
 
In a statement Durham police said: “Durham constabulary have examined the circumstances surrounding the journey to Barnard Castle (including ANPR, witness evidence and a review of Mr Cummings’ press conference on 25 May 2020) and have concluded that there might have been a minor breach of the regulations that would have warranted police intervention. Durham constabulary view this as minor because there was no apparent breach of social distancing.

“Had a Durham constabulary police officer stopped Mr Cummings driving to or from Barnard Castle, the officer would have spoken to him, and, having established the facts, likely advised Mr Cummings to return to the address in Durham, providing advice on the dangers of travelling during the pandemic crisis. Had this advice been accepted by Mr Cummings, no enforcement action would have been taken.”

They added: “Durham constabulary does not consider that by locating himself at his father’s premises, Mr Cummings committed an offence contrary to regulation 6 of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020. (We are concerned here with breaches of the regulations, not the general government guidance to ‘stay at home’).”
 
Laughing. Never said it was. Merely pointed out that they haven’t said he did break lockdown rules as the thread title suggests

So they would have told him what he was doing was wrong and if he hadn't ceased his journey they would have taken action.

And they are only talking about the law, not government guidance.

What have the Police said about going for a drive to test your eyesight?
