Dry January

If someone’s thinking about doing it I’d say go for it. Even if it’s not for you, it’s only a month.

I’m currently having a break that I’ll be continuing through January and on into the summer, maybe beyond depending on how I feel.
Started early December, it’s been a doddle so far, even with Christmas. I honestly don’t miss it. I’ve been on works do’s, to the pub, on holiday, out for meals etc. Enjoyed them all, and didn’t come away from any of them with the mindset that booze would have made them better.
I thought before I started I’d have some sort of feeling of missing out on something. But the truth is it’s probably the opposite.
Maybe that’s the inconvenient truth the booze companies don’t want you to find?!

I wasn’t that big of a boozer but the difference is still noticeable
My sleep has been quality, bank account is looking a lot better, I’m less stressed, more productive and generally happier.

I try not to tell people about it in real life, it usually makes them react negatively. If I get asked why I’m not drinking I’ll just make an excuse about having an early drive the next day etc.

I know there are benefits. I know I’ll save money. I know I’ll probably feel better but
Cask ale just tastes so F***ing good.

I adopted a more European approach to drinking after visiting Holland and Belgium alot. I rarely have more than 4 pints and I stay away from the mass produced pisswater

Yes this is basically me nowadays. I don’t get much out of drinking 8 pints of Stella anymore.

I'm doing it. I'm toying with doing a dry year. Just to see what I can achieve. Probably nothing, but at least I'll know, it's always been a curiosity for me. Love red wine and beer, so won't be easy.

I have had my 3rd sober Christmas and I love it. I just need to control my depression binging still but on the whole, I love being sober. I love being in control.
What I hate is the alcohol shaming that goes on. People say, go on, just 1.... They wouldn't say the same about crack or heroin. It is the only drug (poison) where you feel forced that you need to join in.

If you’re a recovering alcoholic then it’s absurd that anyone would say that to you. If you’re not, then maybe just tell people you are.

And remember it doesn't count unless you go on and on about it. Similar to parkrun.
Ha and being vegetarian. I gave up meat nearly two years ago and not a moment passes that I don’t remind everyone of the fact.

Mind you part of if it is because some folk just can’t seem to get over a bloke being vegetarian, so they actually need to be reminded.

There is a lot of pressure TBH - From my experience people presume that you drink and are puzzled when you don't or just leave you out of plans because it is known that you don't drink.

Ha.. I've been veggie for 35 years and gave up booze 3 years ago and smoking 10 years. Someone last week said to me, you boring b****d. Erm ok mate.

Ye there a mindset in this country where you are perceived as boring if you don’t drink

People don’t actually mean it, people who say that feel threatened by there own insecurity of what the drink. People think they are going to be judged by people who don’t drink, therefore they try and bring you along
