Driving to Blackburn

Would you recommend Blubberhouses or M62……..the M62 a few miles longer but looks like only an extra 5 mins, so assume Blubberhouses isn’t the fastest of routes?

I hope you are in possession of Google Maps app on your smart phone? If so, then around 20 minutes prior to setting off, check your destination as it is LIVE TIME TRAFFIC. The quickest route will be evident, as such use this in your vehicle as a free Sat Nav. USB Charger needs to be constantly connected to save your phone battery dying and a hands free phone holder is required to stop you from dying. I don’t mean to patronise, but I hope this helps anyone else who may be wondering how to drive a car to Blackburn.

I was just wanting a bit of advice from previous experiences, was set on Blubberhouses but the time to distance ratio dictates that maybe. a poor road.

its not always 100% accurate tbf particularly if an accident or heavy traffic and it 'reroutes'

Once you get to colne its M65 and a doddle. Coming home as long as its not foggy by far shortest route

96 miles M65/A59
124 miles M62/M66

I'd go A59 and then maybe drop down the A56 to Colne, the the M65 gets you to the Darwen side of Blackburn for the ground.
Traffic is a pain around Nelson at tea time, but it's only for about a mile.

The M62 is a mare any time after 3.30 really, though you'd be leaving it before the worst spot (take M66 and cut across through Haslingden).

There were loads of roadworks around Whalley when I was there a week or two ago.

@TheBoroBuzzard, that sounds pretty tight, especially given the faff when you get near the ground for parking etc.

If you take the M66 you will miss the worst regular jams on the M60. Should be fine. Birstall is the other bottleneck near Leeds but you should easily miss the worst of that.

Just be aware if you take the same route back, the M66 southbound junctions 0 to 2 are closed tonight. Diversions are in place, not sure how long it will take to get through.
Better option would be to come down the M61.
The M6 southbound is also closed at junctions 22 to 21a.

The road isn’t great but generally traffic flows ok you often get a bit of a queue through Colne. However the M62 around that time can also be terrible. As already mentioned check live traffic updates for A59, M62 and I’d also check A66/M6.
