Dorman Long Tower - Listed Building Status

Quite certain the Gazette will have been told that figure by the mob wanting to demolish it, and published it with little question. Might be true, might not be. We’ve no idea.

has long since given up on meaningful journalism or pretending to care about Teesside. What with having a Geordie editor etc and a big focus at the moment on building clicks from Hartlepool and Darlington. No desire or resource to fight for anything on Teesside.

"South Tees Development Corporation, which submitted the plans for the site, denied demolition work had already begun after photographs of the tower showed machinery at its base, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Work was going on "in and around" the tower and other infrastructure had been removed but "nothing structurally has been changed with the tower", a spokesman said."

Make's you wonder how much stuff goes through 'on the nod' because we're not organised enough to do something about it. Well done to you!
all the petitions and objections in the world wouldn't have made a bling bit of difference. MPs having their picture taking with it, doing smug walk arounds or even having pictures hung up in their offices has exactly the same effect.

I don't think the Gazette helps when they publish stories saying it will be demolished doesn't help, neither does folks saying nothing can be done or 'it's quite hard to do' we need positivity and action to fight for everything that is rightfully ours and stop it from being taken away.

It’s unfortunate but there is not the interest in the area, to save it, but you never know it could get a reprieve.

I think the problem is the lack of competence we have from local government officials. At best a bunch of opportunistic snake oil salesmen. We're being massively ripped off and we deserve much better. They are quite simply not good enough.

If the "Dorman Long tower" had been in the right place at the right time it might have been preserved but it never has been, so as it stands (just about) it's not viable in any way to preserve it, that's the reality of the situation. Sad but true.

the right place being outside of Teesside where we're seen as an easy target. have a look around and listen to the excuses that are made.. then have a look at anywhere else in the country. sad but true.. we're so used to being shyt on from a great height that we've come to expect it, worse still.. we're starting to promote and encourage it!

The gazette article says it would require £7-9m to secure the building so it doesn't fall down and it will still only last 2 decades, that's purely to secure the building integrity, not bring it into any new usage
Ripping out the bottom of it certainly won't help. Who owns Teesworks? How do they procure the land? How much is the land worth? Who will the land be sold to? Where does that money go to? Where is our housing stock?

If anyone want's to check out what the transporter bridge was supposed to look like.. well.. here it is:
