Donald Trump has paid no income tax for 10 of the last 15 years

exactly, check out super tax in the 60s, The Beatles were so annoyed they wrote a song about it
Of course today we are told how hard done by high earners are at 45%, it was 98%, yet still the elite want more. To protect the 'burden' of the elite, a huge number of people fall into the 45% rate, when in the past a very small number of individuals, a few thousand, fell into the 98%. We have shifted taxation away from the very rich to the masses.

Now my opinion is that if you are one of those multimillionaires. You are benefitting from our societal structures, including social systems, police, and the wider economy. So paying back into that system that made you rich is both just and fair. Taxation for the ultra rich should be heavier and better enforced. On a slightly different slant, I've never met a billionaire who has worked hard enough to deserve such money, it's not possible for one man to work 10,000 times harder than another. I have met people who have more resources to make more money though.

I've never met a billionaire who has worked hard enough to deserve such money,

To be fair I could count on one hand the millionaires I've come across who have worked hard enough to deserve their wealth too & funnily enough those that have worked hard for it are the ones who give some back through charity ETC. Those that inherited or became millionaires some other way are the biggest hoarders & as I mentioned are paranoid that someone is going to come & take it off them.

Ofcourse wealth has many faces. In this case we're obviously talking financial wealth.
You kinda miss the point, wealth is subjective and ultimately relative and there are always people wealthier. Stable people reach a state where they feel their wealth is sufficient, where somewhere between need and greed lies a sweet spot. T

he billionaires, the elites, the monarchy, hedge fund managers many of those are firmly in the greed category and will never feel wealthy enough. They'll always want one more yacht, they'll always want their accountant to shave another 1% off their tax liabilities through dubious practices. Compare that to someone who started with nothing, and now has a nice house and a a good job and actively turns down the chance to make more money because they recognise that the capitalist, keep up with the Jones's lifestyle steals more from you than it gives.

absolutely, I had an old boss/company owner. Her and her husband came from wealth, sent the kid to Eton, and they hoarded their wealth ridiculously. He wore the same tattered old 20 year old tweed jacket every day for the 6 years I worked there. What exactly where they gathering all this wealth for?

I always think in conversations like this it's worth repeating the following, well-trodden, stat:

A million seconds is 12 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years

The difference between million and billion is enormous. Nobody deserves to be, or should even be able to be, a billionaire and when someone that rich fiddles their taxes to save money, well that's just obscene. Nobody who comes from where we all do should be defending such people.

Who knows most people could live a very full & happy life without ever having to struggle on a fraction of the obscene amount they have.
I live down in Essex in quite an affluent area my wife comes from a well off family not millionaires apart from her sister but her & her husband worked damned hard for it.
I have done work for some people who to be honest really are the most horrible people you will ever meet the richer they are the worse they are in my experience some of the conversations I have heard while they have been on their phone to mates & family about those not as well off as they are I have had to really stop myself at times especially when they talk about up north as the great unwashed they don't even care that you can hear them.
Every single one of them really & I mean really begrudge what they see as paying tax to fund lavish lifestyles of workshy feckless lazy people & their feral children (actual quote by the way)

It is funny how people view tax. My thoughts are ..... I would love to pay more tax than I am as it means I would have a bigger income than I have.
Exactly what my dad used to say. Never complain about being in a higher tax band it means you're earning more money.

Is this how the Republicans free themselves from the cult?
Let's be honest, they have been a bunch of pussies in allowing him to terrify them by tweet and this could be an easy way to nail him.

Trumps advisers will be desperately trying to get him ready for the first Presidential debate tomorrow. I’m hoping that Biden performs well and sends this crook on the road to where he belongs.

The problem is it's hard to have a debate with an idiot. As the saying goes they bring you down to their level then beat you with experience.

The trump supporters will see him winning it even if he says nothing but "wibble" through the whole thing. You just hope enough of the floating voters see through his BS and Biden doesn't shoot himself in the foot.

His biggest handicap is he'll have to keep his answers grounded in some sort of reality. Trump won't.

He is so exposed to foreign influence with his finances it is untrue. If he hadn’t landed the apprentice gig none of this nightmare would have happened he would have been bankrupt long ago. He has earned over £400,

So true but it’s not about his base, nothing can bring light to their eyes, it’s down to the undecided and normally disenfranchised to rid us of this crook.

Without the earnings of the apprentice show he would be skint some £400,000,000 I understand the CNN president played a big part in him getting him that role. The irony is that the head of “ fake news” helped create the myth of him as a tycoon. Even without that money he appears probably insolvent.

I thought he wanted to stay in the Oval Office to avoid jail but he also needs to avoid financial meltdown.

He is incredibly vulnerable to foreign influence. Putin et al know it and will do all they can to get him back into office and back in their pockets.

Hopefully people will be able to see what a con artist he is and let him know that he is fired.

This bombshell will make no difference to the voting, the Trump supporters have ignored a catalogue of disclosures around his corruption, this just gets added to the list.

But then, as absolutely corrupt as he is, there is a.much wider problem around corrupt practice amongst the super rich.

Wealth equals power and power corrupts, eventually.

He's in a bind now and his social and public media history is nibbling at his ass constantly.
On one hand he's calling it fake news based on illegally obtained information. If it's been illegally obtained then it has to be real surely?
In the debates when Hilary accused him of paying no tax he said that was because he was smart so he was admitting to tax avoidance at the minimum.
The biggest quandary he faces though is that his claim that he's a brilliant business person. If he's filing losses from all his businesses to avoid tax then he either has to go against his ego and say he is rubbish at running a business or he admits to fabricating his income to the IRS and committing tax fraud rather than avoidance.
Given all the tax he has paid outside the US in places governed by autocratic leaders he'll also be under investigation from a counter-intelligence point as to what leverage some people and countries have over him.
