Does the board need a sticky General Football Thread?

Just wondering whether it would benefit from having a pinned general discussion thread for things that aren't worth starting a new thread over?

Just popped in to my mind there as I'm watching the absolutely dreadful Spurs match and fancied posting about how dreadful it was without going to through the hassle of creating a new thread that would only get 1 or 2 replies.

I suppose I've just done exactly that anyway though.

I still think we should have a weekly pinned match thread too, but it's up to the mods to pin them.

I’m all for it. Could just call it Non Boro Football or something along those lines . Would be a good thread

Vill vs Man United should be a better watch, United are playing some goo stuff at the moment. Fancy Greenwood to bag again

Zzzzzz zzzzzz

Back to the OP, I genuinely think it's something to consider with the much more limited number of threads visible at once on the new forum format.

How do we go about doing it? Can admin only sort that?

Yeah, and it's obviously up to them whether its worth doing, but doubt the thread will be read and every suggestion/question I've posted in the stickied feedback thread has been ignored.

Am not a great fan of a long list of sticky threads. By habit tend to look at the first normal thread title and ignore stickys

Neither am I, to be honest, but I think active ones are useful.

The problem with most sticky threads is that there's never any new posts in them and it's usually information that you only need to read once, so you blank them out.

OneBoro only has 4 or 5 active threads at a time, but they're big ones that stay at the top of the page through constant use.
The ever present ones are a specific matchday thread, Other Boro Stuff and non-Boro football, and I find it keeps things less cluttered.
But then I think this board will have more users, so I guess the threads could be a bit manic.

I agree but many see the charm of the Board in the long list of threads. Admin have been careful to avoid merging threads that contain duplicate topics for example.

There are a lot of features that could have made the new board stand out but in all honesty I don't see this as much more than a re-skinned old board with an image facility.

That's not a complaint either - I liked the old format. The problem will always be the content and that is driven by the users. User management (i.e. culling of obvious trolls) is far more beneficial to the board than any other feature (in my humblest).

I think a general football sticky would be a good idea but only if it was linked to a threaded sub-system. As well as being able to quote a post you would be able to create a new thread linked to that original post in the main thread. So tonights football could e.g. have a load of posts about the match and then a sub-thread about VAR and the penalty shouts that were and weren't overruled. Having the sub threads available as stand-alone topics beneath the main sticky but with a roll-up function for those not interested would keep the UI fairly clean.
