Does Bettinelli save anything?

Must admit I don’t ‘get’ our throw ins. Not really sure what they are meant to achieve.

Think these are a part of the game where managers like Warnock (old school, proper gaffers etc) probably discount heavily, and place no specific emphasis on them. The more modern, forward thinking managers/coaches will see the benefit in them. Klopp bringing in that throw in coach was a bit of a masterstroke, I'm sure I read an article (perhaps on The Athletic) that analysed how much possession is lost by teams from their own throw ins, and Liverpools stats on retaining, and actually creating chances from them, were incredibly high.

I think Dejan had a bum deal at Boro, I don’t blame him for wanting to move on, to better his International chances. It’s interesting to see that since he joined St Pauli they have gone from bottom 3 to 13th. I appreciate it’s all about opinions, and in my opinion he didn’t get a fair crack of the whip.

He's no 'worse' than Bettinelli.

I didn't think he did anything particularly wrong? It was clear from the off that Warnock didn't fancy him or Pears. I think it's mainly for the 'organisation'.

I can't think of Bettinelli have a MOTM display? You can count his saves on one hand.

We probably need 2 new forwards and a keeper in the summer. Just think of this side had Randolph👍

Maybe throw-ins should be re thought. I wonder what happened to kicking them in? Should be given the option of doing both

I'm not sure we'd be much better off with Randolph in goal. Randolph is a better goalkeeper but as s_j_b says earlier in the thread our problem is nobody is putting our chances away. We had three clear-cut chances against Brentford and blasted them straight at their goalkeeper. We showed no composure. It was the same against Rotherham, Blackburn. We went to Forest and completely outplayed them but won by a goal. We just don't take our chances. A better goalkeeper might have won us a couple more points this season but to me the main issue is scoring goals. Put a good striker in our side and we'd be in the mix for automatic promotion, IMO. We miss so many good chances it is ridiculous. A tight defence will cover that up quite often but once the defence is unsettled then you really have to take your chances to score. And Boro don't, and haven't all season.

I don't think many would disagree re our striking ineptitude, but the goalkeeper is very important and ours is a poor one.

If you haven' got a tight defence you might as well give up in this league. Anyone can win a game if your defence is leaky.

No let’s not change the game completely as throwing the ball in is a skill ( one barragan never learned) and part of the game.

Must admit I've expected better given his pedigree. He's not particularly commanding and his shot stopping could be improved.

His kicking in open isn't strong either but as mentioned above he's clearly under instruction to clear his lines quickly in open play.

As an aside, I've noticed we've stopped wasting time at goal kicks over recent weeks. Renewed impetus on taking the game to the opposition?

That wasn’t a wonder strike. It wasn’t in the corner. It wasn’t all that powerful. He got nowhere near it. Dreadful.
