Does Bettinelli save anything?

He’s a rebound keeper as was guzan so if your a striker you know you’ll get that second chance as it rebounds off him or he palms it into danger.

awful keeper.

but so was meijas guzan etc

Same with our identi kit crap forwards.

there’s a pattern emerging at both ends of the field.

I actually thought he was pretty solid when he first joined us. He has definitely regressed though. I looked up his stats, or the team's stats, on whoscored.com and of all the players to have made a league appearance for us this season - there are 26 players - there are only three with a lower average rating across their minutes played. Fletcher, who has barely played through injury, Coulson and Folarin.

I think what gets on my nerves most is the big booming kicks to nowhere. We don't have a proper No9 to win a header or hold it up so the ball comes straight back, or goes out of play. I would agree with the poster who said that is more down to Warnock though. And the number of times our players pass the 'keeper the ball when they're on the halfway line is another thing. It needs stopping. We must do it 8, 9, 10 times per game. We give the opposition 40 or 50 yards back every time we do it.

It one hundred percent is a manager instruction. Needs to be stopped. Half way line passes back to the goalkeeper when under no pressure drive me mad. We turnover possession far to easily

He can kick it a long way and generally you don't worry about him with the ball at his feet.

Is that a good metric for a keeper? Because that is all I can think of. At least he isn't on a long contract...

I've not read the thread in full, yet, but I expect I may go against the grain here a little in that I can see some positives in Bettinelli.

He does generally command the box well (I say that watching Derby's 1st goal through my hands!), and I think he does install some confidence in the back line. This is a massive plus point, and the reason why he'd keep his place in my team. He's not a flapper.

His kicks are generally solid. Like a NFL kicker, you know he'll get his boot cleanly through the ball 8 times out 10, when it's played back to him. He puts the ball in the right areas, and on a good day our midfield does seem to have the knack of gaining possession. It doesn't like we are giving possession away by default, as it did under Pulis.

I posted on saturday after the match that he may as well have no hands.
I've lost count of the goals that simply go straight through him and he doesn't get down to anything.
He flaps on crosses and simply doesn't know where he is in his own box.

He is a talker and can kick pretty well, but I want my goalkeeper to make saves and command his 6 yard box.

The kicking bothers me, as because he's got a decent kick on him, we pass it back to him countless times for him to then hoof it forwards where we then lose possession.

I am surprised at this. I definitely see him as a flapper and don't think he commands anything!

We needed a keeper and he came with a reasonable reputation. I don't think he's any better than the keepers we already had....I would like to have seen us persevere with Pears who did well in difficult circumstances last season.

I think he's absolutely dire. Anything that comes into the box worries me. I've not seen much of Archer, but the bits I have seen, he looks terrible as well. We're in a bit of a pickle goalkeeper wise. What I'd do to get Randolph back.

Is Randolph getting his games ? If not could we get him back on loan ( if he would come back of course )

just checked . He’s had one game

Agree with a lot of this but I don't ever think I've seen a keeper play for us so useless at 'shot stopping'. During Randolph's time here he used to pull off a good save or block, when you thought we would surely concede, at least once a game often more. Bettinelli gets nowt.

I’d just like to back to that feeling that every shot isn’t going to go in as we felt with meijas and guzan and steele and Turnbull and Jones etc

A good ( not great as you don’t need a great keeper in this league) keeper is a must for any decent side.

True, but that is not his fault, I think he is doing what he is told as are the defenders and midfielders when they constantly play the ball back to him.
His only strength is his kicking, he can kick a long ball and accurately.
Everything else is a worry.

There are elements of Warnock's game that play into the opposition's hands. Throw-ins as well.
