Do you store your nuts in the freezer?

Firstly - no, no, no

This is about proper nuts.
Got home from a weekend away and my partner had unilaterally made a storage decision.

Decided to be calm and do my research.
Blimey - it is recommended for a host of reasons.

Hand a handful direct from the freezer - yup, I’m in.

Never too old to learn…

What type of proper nuts?

This is a cooking thing, taken out of context by the Tikkytokky generation no doubt. Absolute zero ( see what I did there , zero = freezing ) need fro nuts that are eaten as snacks from the hand to go in freezer

Example , someone wants to make an almond /pecan cake and they buy big bags to get cost per nut down, but they cant use all the nuts in one cake and dont know when they will next make the cake . Secondly , millenialls scared shxtless somehting will go off whilst not realising nuts with their high fat content are natuarlly long lasting . Tod do with parents that also didnt know and didnt do home economics and since their mams never cooked out from scratch , a vaccuumous situation of common sense has arisen .

Honestly modern life is nuts .

Nuts are full of oils and do go rancid though, generational differences don't transcend the laws of nature.

As someone who cooks a lot, I've thrown tons of walnuts, macadamia and pecans away because I've bought them for recipes and not used them again in ages - they're not poisonous and are still edible but taste like crap. rancid walnuts taste like crayons regardless of if you're a boomer or a millennial - as long as you have working taste buds, anyway.

probably get away with 2-4 months normally, yet probably 2-3 years in the freezer. just common sense really.

any citation on high fat nuts being "naturally long lasting"? as it's actually lower fat nuts that will last longer, such as almonds and hazelnuts, plus the type of fat (poly vs mono).

Errr no - we are both in our 60’s and still believe tik tok is for telling the time.

There is quite a bit of nutritional data to support putting nuts in the freezer.
There is bound to be contra data

I had exactly the same experience with nuts that have been left unrefrigerated for too long, which is why I always put opened bags in the fridge now. Hadn't thought about freezing them but I may try that

what's wrong with putting them in a jam jar in the cupboard? - other airtight containers are available.
