PATIENTS across Teesside and North Yorkshire are being asked to return any walking frames, crutches and walking sticks that they no longer need.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes The James Cook University Hospital, Friarage Hospital and community wards in Redcar, Brotton and Richmond, is holding an equipment amnesty from today (Wednesday 13 October) until Friday 29 October when any unused walking aids will be gratefully received back with ‘no questions asked’.

The amnesty will be totally anonymous and all returned items will be assessed by the trust’s physiotherapy team before being reallocated.

During this amnesty patients can leave items at:

  • · North Entrance at The James Cook University Hospital
  • · Main Reception at Friarage Hospital
  • · Urgent Treatment Centre at Redcar Primary Care Hospital
