Do you ever feel guilt when eating meat?

What are the ingredients of lab grown meat?

I’ve not a clue and I’d be very interested to know. It’s an alternative I’d be all for if the animal suffering was negligible and there were perceptible human benefits.

Regardless of the chemical content?

I've no idea whats in it either to be fair.

I believe it's cultivated cell growth. It's the nature of cells to divide and/or reproduce. The notion of lab meat is, in it's simplest terms, to provide an environment for this to take place.

If the chemical content or any other component was potentially harmful, certainly if compared to “normal” meat, then I wouldn’t be in favour. For lab grown meat to succeed it needs to remove the death/slaughter element, provide the required taste/texture and not be any more unhealthy (and preferably more healthy) than the alternative.

How and if it could happen I have no idea, but if we can do it it’s a preferable situation for me - someone who wants meat but isn’t comfortable with where it currently comes from.

Interesting responses. I think people are much more aware of both animal welfare and the environmental impact of eating meat and dairy. On that topic, heartening to see dairy being highlighted as equally as cruel as other forms of animal rearing.
I was veggie for about 35 years before going vegan and the change was surprisingly difficult for me as someone who enjoyed cheeses.
Out of curiosity, what made you hop over the fence from veggie to vegan?

I've been vegetarian for a while, but not through a conscious ethical or green choice, just over time I started to find meat pretty nasty. I started to find the alternatives nicer.

Finally accepting that dairy is as cruel to the animals as beef, pig ir lamb rearing. But being veggie is a great step on the way!

A Guardian update on cultivated progress...

George Monbiot had a column on this last week too.
He'd been tasting some of it and was very complimentary.

Looks like a lot of work still to do tho to make it commercially/ethically viable

No, I don't think I could go without meat. Dishes simply aren't the same for me without it, I do love my food though, and as a family, we enjoy eating out. I do buy the best produce I can afford though.

I don't like the constant badgering from vegans either, each to their own and all that.

I don’t like badgering vegans either. I never proselytise. But this thread did ask for an opinion on eating meat.
