Do you ever feel guilt when eating meat?

Calling something guff makes someone seem angry? You're going to have to expand on this.
You said those sort of views make ā€œpeopleā€ (can only presume you include yourself in that otherwise how would you know?) dislike vegans and vegetarians. To reach the point of disliking an entire cohort based on a particular standpoint you surely have to be a bit narked about something.

Or you can just be pointing out that people talking utter fluff is why people often don't like vegans, nothing there suggested being "angry", "a bit narked" or "chippy" - you seem desperate for me to be upset at this after 3 tries. People can eat whatever they like in my opinion, I provided an observation. Sorry Sigmund!

Itā€™s fluff in your opinion. Both totally valid perspectives of course, though.

I just think disliking an entire cohort of people is a strange choice of language. If youā€™re not angry, fine, maybe use less angry sounding language!

I didn't use any angry sounding language, are you actually drunk? 4 goes and counting šŸŽ£

this idea that we can use meat substitutes is totally false and probably irresponsible by the so called experts. However, certain meats or animals killed for food certainly has made me more aware of cultural values and beliefs.

This is the kind of guff that makes people dislike vegans and vegetarians. Gross instincts? Self evolved? Spiritual traditions?
I read it as gross as in large, like gross-motor skills meaning your big muscles rather than gross as in disgusting. Aka your primary instinct is getting enough food to fuel you in order to survive but we're comfortable enough as a species that we can choose how we fuel ourselves and there might be a better choice we can make that still satisfies our instincts.

I fully agree that vegans/vegetarians can be a bit preachy but I think in this case it's a bit of miscommunication.

It is a weird position for someone to take tho isnā€™t it?

Disliking a person for not eating animals because they also say something disagreeable

It's not guff. Quite a few cultures have eradicated meat eating for religious reasons. And ultimately the choice is yours to work it out. You can live very healthily without meat and end the suffering it causes, but you have to think about it and make a decision, and understand what the meat industry does and the culture around it, and take a stand. The only reason people hate vegans and vegetarians is because they challenge the norm. One day it will be the norm, though.

I ate eat for many years. 20 years ago my mrs went vegan, which I thought was odd, and this began to annoy me. Thinking about it I realized it was really my problem being annoyed, not hers. Eventually, I decided to give up meat, physically craved it for a while but then that passed. It's a bit like giving up smoking.. once you've given up then you wonder why you ever decided to put smoke into your body. I guess then you wonder why anyone smokes. I tried a meat burger 2 years ago and felt sick afterwards, heavy and bloated, like pouring fat into your body. Same with milk.. used to drink gallons, now just look at the fat globules floating about in the tea and can't drink it. I know serious vegans, I mean 'religious' vegans, who believe that if you eat meat you take on the nature, or karma, of the animal you consume. If you eat a battery farmed chicken then you ingest traces of its distress. and so on. Sounds far out, but there are cultures that believe this. Stuff like this can really raise the heckles, but people believe it.

So, yes, this is all easy to ridicule. The meat industry needs vegans and veggies to be ridiculed.

But the choice is your. It's your body.

Preaching isn't helpful. Nobody "hates" Vs for what they don't eat. In fact I doubt any meat eater hates Vs at all. What they don't like is being preached to. As you acknowledge and then do it any way.

There is a problem here though isnā€™t there.
The post above seems pretty reasonable and balanced but it gets interpreted as ā€˜preachyā€™
That kind of language is pretty divisive and just moves away from what can be a really good discussion.

People disagree about all sorts of things and fight their corner - we rarely call them ā€˜preachyā€™.

This topic always involves that kind of response tho - all a bit odd but,ā€¦ hey ho

Still have meat but not as regularly as the past. Part of that is laziness and Iā€™ll just have a tin of tomato soup for lunch these days because I canā€™t be bothered to cook.
I can quite happily have the meat alternatives, meat free mince and what have you.
Completely cut fish out after reading about fishing practices.
Donā€™t think I could manage vegan, it seems like hard work.

The suffering of animals will never ever stop, which is horrid to think about. I could never stop eating meat I have meat with most meals.

So relating facts that someone disagrees with is interpreted as ā€˜preachingā€™?
