Djed Spence getting the plaudits

What I'd infer from Woodgate and Warnock's comments is that he had stopped putting the effort in in training.
Can’t argue with you but I just have a sense he is unfairly singled out at times. I think it’s easier to call the younger lads out than it is the seniors sometimes. I think Jones’ name was mentioned after Saturday’s debacle but nobody else was singled out(happy to be proved wrong on that, haven’t read all of the reports so maybe Warnock spread the criticism around).

Spence is a wing back. I’ve seen him play well there and show some real promise over the past couple of years. I’ve also seen him have indifferent games and some not so good ones. Much like everyone else in our squad, TBH.

Also, if we want Spence to be a full back or a winger then maybe we should have been coaching him towards that? If we’re not going to play with wing backs then he’s best out on loan anyway so it’s a moot point I suppose.
I'm sure you know I often agree Viv, going back a long way, but I have to say I don't know what you have been watching with him.
He never beats a man, or creates anything like a chance.
Stats are absolutely not everything, but neither are they completely irrelevant.
2 goals and 0 assists now for Spence in 66 appearances or 4095 minutes.
He has terrible concentration and exposes us defensively every match he plays.

I hope he does well at Forest, but I'm really not holding my breath.

If he really was so good, then frankly somebody would have bought him by now.
A loan move to bottom of the league Forest...?

Warnock has said he can be premier League or non league, the choice is Spences', it speaks volumes that he's not even a first team regular. Something is amiss.

I think he had some good games where he's been up and down causing the opposition problems. He has a decent touch and a good turn of pace, he doesn't shy away from taking the ball either. There were times last season when we attacked down his side and there was nobody in support and nobody to cross to. He, and whoever else was playing out wide across the season, had little or nothing to play to or off in the final third. He's only a young lad and hopefully this move will get him 30+ starts and some good experience along the way.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, I do think he is awful.

It's one game. Let's see how he fairs over a season. He looked the bllcks when he first broke into our team, it seemed to be maintaining the required levels over a string of games where he fell down.

So Nw saying he has seen something different in DJed lately was just made up bull.
I think NW comes out with some garbage sometimes.

They’ve also praised him. What is it they are talking about when they mention his attitude? Every single young player will make a mistake, switch off, go through good and bad patches. It’s just interesting that Spence is singled out so often despite not really doing anything that others haven’t done, including the vastly experienced players in the squad.
Pretty sure that when they refer to his attitude they're referring to matters off the pitch, not on it.

Back in August, after Warnock said he'd "had a chat" with him, his remarks were fairly revealing as to where he thought the issue was.
“I had a chat with him last week and I’ve seen a big change in him this week.

“I’ve been pleased with him.

“Now, whether he can maintain that…

“He knows what I think about him. How far Djed Spence can go is in Djed Spence’s head.

“He hasn’t been as good as he should have been in that respect.
“He’s been first out training, all sorts has changed this week and that’s the way he’s got to be. He can’t be like he has been."

The issues with JS were both on and off the pitch it seemed to me, based on what NW and Woodgate said about him.

Against QPR he "cost" us two goals, according to NW, but the fact we have 3 of our 4 fullbacks now injured seems to suggest we could do with him here still.

I’ve just watched the QPR goals on YouTube and struggle to see how Spence is ‘responsible’ for any of them. Their first goal comes down his side but the clip only shows him chasing back as the ball is played out to his side of the pitch so maybe he was getting forward to support an attack. The second and third goals had nothing to do with him, let’s be honest. QPR are in behind Spence on that first one but is it his fault if someone else loses the ball and we concede? It’s harsh to blame Spence for that, IMO.

If Warnock wants to blame anyone for that defeat then surely he need look no further than himself, who sat on his hands and did absolutely nothing as ten men played right through the middle of us time and again. Willock caused mayhem and nothing was done about it, and the game slipped away.

This is what annoys people about Warnock - he throws people under the bus on a weekly basis but never takes responsibility for anything himself. He calls young lads out for the smallest thing but never mentions senior players by name. Whenever we win it’s because he saw something in training the previous day and said something to Blackie. Whenever we lose it’s because of the referee, the linesman, a young lad, Akpom, international matches, international pitches, players not eating their snacks, the recruitment staff, that we don’t have what his Cardiff team had. There’s a catalogue of excuses for every defeat or game we don’t win.

Blaming Spence for the QPR defeat, FFS. Its absolutely pathetic really.

It seems some minds have been well and truly made up.
The only thing that will stop this growing is an improvement in results.
Sadly some will not row back even if that does happen; they have made their stand.

You mean on Warnock generally? I personally think he’s running out of time and goodwill but if he turns the form around then I’ll be chuffed. His results have been poor for long enough for it to be a worry. I said last week that it sort of feels like the end Mowbray’s tenure, it just has that vibe about it. There’s a piece in the Gazette today about ‘waiting for everything to click into place’ and I remember saying exactly the same thing in the weeks leading up to him getting sacked. We need to put a consistent run of not just form but performances together. Hopefully this week on the training field will enable him to work on the defence.

Yes I mean on Warnock.
I believe you would be chuffed and I believe LJ would acknowledge if things turn favourably, but in the meantime the swell of doom and gloom creates the risk of self fulfilling prophecy.
I don't know whether he will find his team from within a big squad, but I still very much hope so.
I'm not sure some others do and want to be proved "right" more than anything else.

I was absolutely loving what we were doing up until January this year. We had a tight squad, we were a solid team that was grinding out good results. I didn’t want Warnock anywhere near the Boro job but the work he’d done up until then was excellent, IMO. You can’t knock it. We just seem to have lost our way.

He’s making excuses for things which seem totally under his control, which has become really grating, and the team has no real structure to it. We’re the sort of team that could win 3-0 at Reading on Saturday and lose the next two and you wouldn’t be surprised. It’s unsustainable.

I agree, I'm not sure that GS could be blamed for those goals, but there is obviously an issue with his application, Woodgate also alluded to it and he wasn't one for criticising players normally, he tended to talk them up too much is anything.
