Dimi

If it was a former Boro goalkeeper coming back as a goalkeeper coach my choice would be Shay Given. Not that I advocate him coming back here as a goalkeeping coach and probably better option out there for the role, but if I had to choose an ex player then it would be him.

Why do we need an ex-player ?

The concept of coaching is totally different to playing the game.

Arsene Wenger or Paul Merson, who would you pick as a manager v's who would you pick as a player ?

Jose Mourinho or Bobby Moore who would you pick as a manager v's who would you pick as a player ?

If for some reason it had to be an ex player I'd choose Ben Roberts as he's actually had a decent career in coaching. Coached Nick Pope, Matt Ryan, David Stockdale during their development at Charlton and Brighton.

We don't need an ex player, I was just replying to the OP and naming an ex-player I would prefer than Dimi as A GK coach(in a scenariowhere we picked an ex player as a GK coach), hence why I said I don't advocate him as a GK coach and there is probably better options out there.

What is it with players who done well with the club to be given coaching roles? The likes of Leadbitter, Bamba and George Friend have all been great servants, but there is a recurring theme that they should be part of the coaching setup. Personally speaking, I would rather see us take a chance on established coaches who have a history of working with senior professionals and a proven track record with developing top quality youngsters.

The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Southampton etc, don't just give coaching jobs away willy nilly. It is about time we had a proper coaching team in place, similar to the one we had with Steve Round, Steve Harrison etc under McClaren.

The two most likely options are changing Leos role or bringing in Darren Ward who he trusts
