Dijksteel's 'goose' looks cooked to me...(bench warmer back up)

🤷‍♂️
I think Cooper is going to be found out this season. I think it could all go a bit Karanka at the pointy end of the season in February.

Not worried about Dijksteel not getting more yellow cards. Suspect thats more to do with his pace and having Crooks and Jones doing the dirtier stuff on his side of the defence last season. He's quick enough that he doesn't really need to just take someone out ever, he can keep up with them.

Players sometimes need a kick up the **** at the start of a season - just to remind them that they need to wake up and get their head in the game for a long season ahead.

I think the 'yellow card' comment was about the fact that Dijksteel should have brought Willock down when he lost chance to take the ball, and take the card for the benefit of the team.

I think he is good enough the play RCB and is a quality defender, but he was at fault (in part) for 2 of the 3 goals on Saturday. In general he needs to be stronger in the challenge and a bit cleverer to stop the attacker getting shots on goal. Dijksteel is very atheltic and has a strong physique and he needs to maximise that asset. Going forward AD is a Rolls Royce but his primary job is to stop the opposition.

Managers criticising individual players in public is a dangerous tactic, but used very occasionally it can very effective. We don't know how many times AD has been asked to do things in private and he has not worked. Taking AD off at half time showed the management team were unhappy with him.

CW said about Dijksteel ; ''he didn't make contact with the player for first goal - maybe thats why hes only had one booking"

Dijksteel was my man of the match vs West Brom but he just isn't tough enough when we have to roll up our sleeves. Same could be said for Bola, McNair as a defender & Jones.
I didn't see what Wilder said, but was it straight after the game? I think Wilders wrong there, and would change his mind on what he said, now he will have had time to look at it in more detail.

I don't even think he should have took him down, if he couldn't tackle him legally. You can't go taking bookings to stop 25 yard shots in the first 15 minutes if you're a centre back or centre mid, as you would never finish a tough game with 11 men. Although, saying that, it might have been early enough where a tackle like that wouldn't have been a booking.

Jones played a semi bad pass, but didn't really have anywhere to go (other than a hard pass down the line) so can't really blame him for it, but then he got back and shadowed the man, as he was closest to him, which is also fair enough. Dijksteele couldn't get over to the middle as he was also covering a guy on the overlap (which is his job when Jones goes forward). By the time he had to go over, he was never going to get on the right side of him. Lenihan had nobody to cover, so should have stepped out, if anyone should be getting blame.

I think that goal was just one of those things, and that outcome only happens 1 in 100 if you play that over again, it's just unfortunate.

Steffan was worse for the second goal (which came from a corner when Howson left him get a shot off far to easy).

Bola had a crap position for the third which left Dijksteele with two men for the third, but that was a clearly well prepared set piece (or good understanding between attackers), as it looked designed to specifically create a 2 v 1.
