Dijksteel's 'goose' looks cooked to me...(bench warmer back up)

I dont think Dijksteel is the kind of defender Wilder wants in his team. He wants a defender who 9if we can't win the ball or make at ackle) to ensure the opposition player doesn't get his shot off and if that means fouling him - so be it.

I can understand this - we really aren't ruthless enough at the back. Dijksteel was like a rolls royce vs West Brom and didn't get a mention from Wilder however, vs QPR he slated him live on air which I think doesnt help anyone. Especially team spirit....because the players look around and think - Am i next in the firing line ?

You dont see the Steve Coopers of this world doing that sort of stuff.

I think it was Wilder's message to the fans who like Dijksteel that his days in the first 11 are numbered so get used to it.
CW said about Dijksteel ; ''he didn't make contact with the player for first goal - maybe thats why hes only had one booking"

Dijksteel was my man of the match vs West Brom but he just isn't tough enough when we have to roll up our sleeves. Same could be said for Bola, McNair as a defender & Jones.

I like Wilder, Forthright, tells it as it is, as he sees it, straight from the heart. A proper Yorkshireman. He is driven, sets high standards and wants his players to do the same. I have no problem with how he handles himself. It is a tough, uncompromising sport and players earn big money to perform and do the dark arts as well as the skills and free flowing stuff.

Wilder will know his players and who needs a kick up the backside and who needs an arm round the shoulder. Djiksteel is a rolls royce type, but he can be a little too laid back at times. I trust Wilder and if he wants a public show let him get on with it, he knows we see what he sees, so why hide it? I am certain he keeps lots of stuff unsaid. He hardly threw Dijksteel under the bus as implied by the OP though and will remain an integral part of the squad. The manager wants rotation and expects consistency from whoever has the shirt. He is building a squad as well as a team to fit his mantra, bring it on I say, in Wilder I trust.

I’d take a player with only one yellow in the last year if he was reading the plays so well that he was intercepting the ball before there was any danger but Dijksteel regularly has to use his physical attributes to get himself out of situations he’s caused by allowing players to get in behind him. I like him but I think McNair is better in both defensive and attacking phases from that side.

He was one of our best performers for *most* of last season but just like the rest of his team, his form dipped towards the end.

I thought he was okay against WBA for large portions of the game, although I didn't get to watch the QPR game.

Comments about him not getting loads of yellows are strange to me, as he has always been a defender who seems to read the game so well and that's why he gets away without picking up daft yellows, like Crooks.

I also think he brings the ball out of defence very well, much better than McNair or any other of the 3 CBs.

Oh dear me, another lame attempt I am afraid footylegs.

he had a bad game, was culpable for one of the goals and got a ticking off. Probably that's the be all and end all of it. It was a very weak attempt to win the ball back but he wasn't the only one.

🤷‍♂️

Maybe he is being used as a scapegoat. The rest of the squad didn't cover themselves in glory. Maybe Wilder is a tad frustrated at the typically slow progress in getting new players (as usual for Boro).

Anyone else you’d like to slate? Gibson out?

🤷‍♂️
Fair enough - I just watch the likes of him and Alex Neil and they seem more intelligent than the likes of Wilder and his 'no nonsense' approach, which is what it is but IMHO isn't a nuanced approach to players which I think is critical to engendering team spirit. Maybe I'm doing Wilder a disservice.

I'm kind if agreeing with Wilder on Dijksteel. If you watch he left his man for the 3rd headed goal. Terrible defending. Nowhere near consistent enough even though Wilder threw the lot of them under a bus picking the wrong team.
Dijksteel makes you purrr one week and despair the next game. Not acceptable.

Dijksteel isn't a CB, he's a CDM who got shifted to RB by charlton, RWB by us then emergency RCB

when he is good, he is very very good, when he isnt, he goes missing and is often on the wrond side of a man that scores or plays a key assit in a goal.

I do like his effort though, although I fear if we are going to improve, its not enough.

Got to be honest I’ve never really seen Djiksteel (or McNair) as centre backs. I think RWB will prove to be his best position. We struggle at times to compete physically with teams like QPR as our CBS are not big or physical enough!

That applies to last year's defence too, and everyone in it, including Fry and McNair

I think Dijksteel could really suit the CDM role but he’s fantastic as a RCB, he needs to be in the team for me.
