Derby escape 9 point deduction

As much as I would have found it amusing for them to get relegated its not good to see the EFL allowing clubs to be woefully mismanaged by absolute chancers.

Derby, Wigan, Bolton, Coventry, Oldham, Bury, Sheff Wed etc. I suspect we’ll see more of what happened to Bury.
This is a great point, the efl are given out punishment because their own due diligence tests failed

I don't feel sorry for the Derby fans who've spent the last 18 months mocking Gibson and claiming it's all our fault for grassing on them, rather than facing up to their own club's wrongdoing. And I don't feel sorry for the fans who backed the club for sacking Keogh while keeping on Lawrence and Bennett.
All I can say is you can't have been around in 1986 if you are happy to see this happen to their fans.

The anguish of wondering if our club would survive was devasting for the region.

Can`t say i`m happy that another club could be on the verge of liquidation

Hopefully the assets cover the debt but as the accounts haven`t been posted yet I fear the worst

I do have sympathy for some of their genuine, enjoy the football fanbase. BUT I am absolutely delighted that a club who openly disregarded the rules of the game are getting their comeuppance. It was all or nothing for them under Lampard and it looks like it’s going to be nothing.
Hopefully other teams are looking at this situation and considering their actions too. “Doing a Derby” is not a good idea.

Derby rolled the dice and lost.
But they came so close.
They cheated a place ahead of us to get into the play offs.
That nearly resulted in an Aston Villa style promotion.
The risk of cheating financial fair play rules are massive.
But if you get away with it the rewards are huge.
Something needs to change.

Their stadium is worth £82 million isn't it?

That could have saved them, shame they didn't sell it a few years back and clear all their debts so they didn't find themselves in this pickle............

They're bent cheats and have been for about four seasons or more and the Keogh thing was just outrageous. Dumped to non-league is too good for them. I don't see how anyone can sympathise with them when thousands and thousands of other fans of clubs who obeyed the rules have seen their clubs relegated and lost star players etc. when the cheating Rams have stayed up.

You reap what you sow.

I'm as petty as @futureboy, I'm delighted.

No sympathy for the club administration, some sympathy for the club, but sadly the club benefited of the irregular administration. The fans and none admin members of the club were happy to turn a blind eye and focus on the benefits gained from cheating, so they all have to accept the punishment.

As would our fans

Oh I know mate. We were in a state. But we hadn't deliberately gone out of our way to cheat the leagues rules for five years at the expense of other teams being relegated. And then when caught refuse to acknowledge it and then drag it out for three years, staying up at the expense of another team who were caught doing the same thing who had played that season with a 9 point deduction.

If they had just been run into the ground with bad financial decisions I would be sympathetic.

They have deliberately cheated and obfuscated at every turn to try and get out of it and not except their punishment, they used a cheating loophole to 'make' £80 million to cheat their way clear of debt and their fans laughed in the faces of other fans who called them out for it.

Like I said, I'd be happy to see them drop to League 2 or even non league for their discretions.

They have deliberately tried to circumvent FFP for at least four seasons, to cheat other teams and their fans out of either promotion from the league, or their position in it.

They should drop a league for every seasons they've cheated.

Taking the hit of getting everything out of the way this year when they were probably going to get relegated anyway is another dodge to minimise the impact of their cheating.

I agree they have to be punished, I just don’t see myself the type to revel in it. It seems some fans on a derby messageboard have it in for Gibson so we should be gleeful about their demise

I feel sorry for the fans, and a messageboard doesnt represent a fanbase

There's a big difference in being punished because your owners have run your club into the ground and being punished for cheating. It's also hard to sympathise with fans who were aware of the cheating and rejoiced in it.

Could not be clearer where the blame lies yet they continue to promote the view it is all Steve Gibson’s fault. Personally he comes out of it with enormous integrity - a proper local owner who puts the club and it’s supporters first who challenges cheats

‘It’s supporters first’

really?
