Derby escape 9 point deduction

Don't forget they cheated us out of a play off spot in 2019
We'd have been knocked out in the semi final again so it didn't make any real difference, either in regards of promotion or a nice financial windfall from the big game at Wembley.

Sure, they cheated us out of sixth place, but probably at least saved us the disappointment of a lackluster performance in the playoffs.

They need to be punished for their cheating and for their financial mismanagement. Although I'm amazed Mel Morris has been allowed to run the club into the ground as he has done.

You are more than likely correct, but we would never know.

The opposition in both games could have had a mistimed challenge in the first few minutes and been a penalty goal and a man down. It puts such an enormous difference on the emphasis of the game that we could never know how we would have faired.

Not sure if anyone else has posted the same but probably best doing administration now and taking the points deduction as they’re probably getting the 9 as well so weee really as good as down… they’ll start next season on a clean slate and probably rebuild stronger… also they’ll be at Rooneys manegerial level now 😏

Sure, anything could have happened. But Villa and Leeds were streets ahead of where we were at that time. Our form was comparable to Derby in the second half of the season though and they managed to beat Leeds. I think they performed better against the bigger teams that season though.

As much as I would have found it amusing for them to get relegated its not good to see the EFL allowing clubs to be woefully mismanaged by absolute chancers.

Derby, Wigan, Bolton, Coventry, Oldham, Bury, Sheff Wed etc. I suspect we’ll see more of what happened to Bury.
How exactly can the EFL stop chancers from coming in? They check to make sure the money for purchasing the club exists, they check that there are on existing court orders or recent disqualification from directorships. What else can they do? Morris passed all the tests and I'm not sure what additional tests could have been done to identify what a crook he was.

What about the Bury situation? Bloke buys the club for a quid then claims to suddenly realise he can’t afford to run the club and they go to the wall. I’m not saying it’s all on the EFL but something has gone very wrong there.

Turned out Gibson was bang right with his accusation that they were cheating.

Most of their fans were happy enough about their strategy so long as they were getting away with it. They were aggressive with their comments toward Gibson, Boro as a club and Boro fans.

They now need to suck it up. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. Hopefully the punishment doled out will be sufficient to relegate them. That might serve as a lesson to others who think they can fiddle FFP rules.

He proved he had access to money, then it all disappeared. Again how can the EFL stop a shyster? If someone proves they've got hte the cash, but have no intention of using it?

Should change the rules to stop these £1 deal and make the likes of him stump up some serious cash in order to prove they intend to invest in the club in order for the transaction to go through.

Why, because that makes it less likely that someone will buy a basket case of a club and save it. Will see more clubs go to the wall.

I don’t think it’d put off serious investors as they’d be putting that money in anyway. Good if it puts off the likes of Steve Dale.

It's unworkable. They already ask to prove that they have access to money to operate. They can loan millions and return it days later for 20k fee. There is no way the EFL or FA can stop something like that.

U never know pal we might have done it and missed out on the 100m

What about Leeds who they beat in the semi??

They were cheated out of a chance of 100m

Also don't forget an additional 3 point deduction should they fail to pay their players on time at any point this season. Seeing as tv money and season ticket money has gone and the only income the administrators have to play with could be a few thousand match day tickets, it can't be far off. Rooney is currently paying away travel and accommodation costs for the team out of his own pocket.

The points deductions could potentially be record breaking here and blead into next season. I'm sure a club of Derby's stature will find a buyer, and survive, but it will be for a fraction of what Morris has been trying to sell it for because it'll be a basket case for at least another 2 seasons due to points deductions, league position, transfer embargos, and 3 year FFP windows

I'm not so sure they will find a buyer. A club that has no ground, owes £20+ million to HMRC that has to be paid along with other football related debts to be paid in full. A minimum of 25% to other creditors otherwise more point deduction. No real salable assets in the playing staff.

A buyer is effectively buying the club saddled with debt that will stuggle for a number of years potentially and doesn't even own its ground or training facilities.
