Don’t want to be too critical. It wasn’t just tonight’s game this happened (and it definitely isn’t just Boro).
But what has happened to defending? This was chelsea’s 5th goal. 4 defenders, all central, all near the 6 yard line. And all of them (possibly excusing O’Brien) marking absolutely nobody. Palmer - 7 yards out - the obvious pass - noone close to him.
This has driven me mad for years. When did defenders stop marking attackers and just mark “space”?
