Debenhams look likely to go under with 14000 jobs at risk

Clearly no saving this business - struggling before, definitely struggling now. Dont really understand their USP - stuff is cheaper online, it’s not high end stuff and stores seem old fashioned, but still it’s another big brand gone and a huge glut of jobs.

Yes if I was to name a handful of retailers that wouldnt survive this crisis then Debenhams would be right up in there

Someone will buy the trademarks and the domain... it has the next littlewoods.com written all over it

Probably either by Mike Ashley or the owners of Very.co.uk, etc

I don't why people are so shocked when retailers announce job losses or store closures, we're in the digital age - they haven't adapted.... i haven't been down Stockton High Street or even into Middlesbrough for a good 5 or 6 years to shop

No need too, half of the problem is the amount of Chavs knocking around High Streets, easier to shop online

I have to say that I do like to go to a town centre. I love browsing in book shops, especially second hand, record shops, having a coffee, watch the world go by. Am sad to see so many shops closing and people losing jobs. No doubt the digital age has hammered town centres.
I'm the same, will be a pity if things continue to worsen, which is what it looks like will happen.

Close shave for Ashley
Might pick up a bargain now - but, given he had his fingers well and truly burnt with HOF he will stay clear

I remember coming out of the Madison on an afternoon just before Christmas having being 'day clubbing' surreal experience to wander into a heaving town & stores full of shoppers... Kirby & other colleges had ended & was one big party...

Country has been going down the nick since the early 90s, seems to happening rapidly now. Young men sitting down for a living with very poor skill sets unless its on a laptop. People will be sat at dining tables working from home after leaving school. The fish pasty face generation. Sad to whats happened to life.

Yes we should all still be down the mines or toiling the fields with our rose tinted specs on

i believe the capitalists call it " to get rid of the deadwood" & "to bleed dry".

there wont be another 'Harrying of The North" there simply isnt the rebels, too many comfortable being compliant whilst holding out the begging bowl.
