De Roon

there is an untold story somewhere in Karankas premier league season as to why we just disintegrated after Christmas having more than held our own in the first half of the season - and it must have been more than just a bad transfer window.

definitely as to go so wrong and not even come close to halting the slide I agree hopefully we’ll find out one day.

to fight so hard to get there and that euphoria after the Brighton game only then to basically throw it away With a a wimper was odd.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand that season.

one thing we’re all partying in the stadium of light full of hope with an away win the next we’re down

I thought De Roon was poor when he was here. It’s just a personal preference thing. He came with a big reputation (“the wavebreaker” etc) and, to me, he didn’t look like he had any technical ability whatsoever. I also didn’t like Doriva for similar reasons.

I don’t care how he’s done at other clubs, maybe he’s just more suited to that league or that club or the role they’ve given him, but I judged his time at Boro by his time at Boro, nothing else. And for me, it was largely poor. Same goes for Stuani, although it’s increasingly clear he should have played upfront for us.

A rather excellent post atypical

De Roon was a very good player. However, it was hard for anyone to look good in the side that we had that season.

De Roon issue for me was that he was a - mainly - defensive midfield player & AK played him off the lone striker... in a 10 position (not role, position) ...we effectively started defending from there...

How did Bob Mortimer summarise that season? Something like:
"we got promoted, farted, then left".

I'm not sure we even managed a fart. Maybe Man City away.
