David McGoldrick on a free?

I think it's a good move if it happens. Granted he was in and out at Sheffield last season but he definitely will be plus to our attacking ranks which let's face it were one of the worst in the league.

Even when they got promoted?

But they did get promoted, don’t get me wrong he won’t get loads of goals but he’ll definitely do a job.
Somebody has to get loads of goals. Maybe he'll do ok but this feels like another Watmore move to me. 30 minutes of running around to not much effect.

Always stood out as a tidy player when playing against us. He's 34 but Wilder obviously knows him really well. Surely only there for backup but I think he could surprise a few people.

He really impressed me when we played them a few years back, albeit he's 34 now. Good for the changing room, Wilder knows and obviously trusts/likes him.

As a backup, on a free - absolutely fine with me

It's not really a suprise. Wilder loved him and he's available on a free.

I think he's a decent signing for much needed experience. I doubt he will get double figures but Wilders forwards have so much more to do. I expect he's more an 'addition' rather than main man. I'm surprised he's only the first of his former 'gang' to come in.

I remember Sheff Utd were really poor at the Riverside last season and McGoldrick came on 2nd half and looked like he could make things happen.

He's a clever player and I think he's more of a creator than a goalscorer.

I'd be happy if we brought him in. I don't think Wilder will be planning on rotating the strikers as much next season. I think he'll want to sign two main strikers and possibly use Watmore and McGoldrick as backup.

mcgoldrick is no where near my top choices , and goes against the supposed planning for the future route, but , CW knows how to put a team together, he has loads of options in this window, there has never been so many players out of contract , I trust him to get the balance right. He will be like a kid in a sweet shop.
Let's hope he picks the right sweets.
Coburn needs to go out on loan, Watmore deserves a last move.

Not great in signing forwards apparently.

I think the last time we had a 'clever' forward was Bamford, so we're going back a bit there. I don't see McGoldrick being bullied easily or losing the ball cheaply, I think he can link the play well. From what I remember of him playing Sheffield United is that he seemed to drop a bit deeper and bring defenders out of position, allowing the team to get in behind the opposition and attacking the spaces.

To my mind he's a clever player. He's never really relied on pace so his age isn't really an issue. He could prove to be an important part of a squad, adding variety and a bit of know-how. A big change on what we had last season.

Happy enough with him as back-up striker.

As long as we're looking for 2 starting strikers and he's not coming as first choice, I've got absolutely no problem with it whatsoever.

Seems more like a Nugent type signing. Good work ethic, top pro etc

Never really been impressed by him but cant say I've took much notice of him.

I do hope we are getting a top forward aswel, Gayle I think is a decent gamble. Mcgoldrick seems like a low quality watmore

I’ve said before mcgoldrick was key to wilders she u promotion and top half finish side. He’s the fulcrum for how his attack operates.

If we can he’s a no brainier for me.

I love this

Poor man’s bergkamp

Yep I’ll take that
Its an interesting watch. Them characteristics I rarely saw last season, obviously he needs specific players.

The main thing from the video was that, that team rarely played horizontally and mainly vertically. Where as last season we played so much side to side slow football. Giles is a big signing.

Hopefully a decent ball playing lcb too

As jediboro's post said. Poor man's Bergkamp. People are looking at his age and scoring record and if he was our primary target as a goalscorer I'd be worried, however he clearly isn't. He's there to drag players out of position by taking up unconventional positions, he vacates space for others, has a decent touch and is an awkward customer to deal with in a good side with a manager who understands his strengths and the role he plays in teams.

Not a bad signing at all for me, few important goals and some nice touches of class that the more observant fans appreciate and we'll look back on him as astute.

That or he's effin' passed it 😂

He has never stood out when playing against us and he has never registered beyond that.
That said if he is a bench option and low cost andWilder wants him then fine.
I’m more interested in the real signings to come up front, a DCM, good GK and LCB.
