David McGoldrick on a free?

He's 34. 34, and a striker - not a goalie.

Even when they got promoted he was a 1 in 3 merchant (waay the best he's ever been, apart from one season on loan with Coventry in a lower league). Even in Sheff U's golden season back in the Prem, he suffered a "goal drought" that lasted till March - according to Wikipedia.. True, their next (fateful) season, he scored 9 in 40 - he was pretty much their only scorer all season. But he's 34...

I'd LOVE to be wrong. but should we be pinning any kind of promotion bid on this fella...?

Always thought he was a poor player. Played v the Boro many times and never stood out. Squad player or not I can’t see how he improves the team if he joins.would be a waste of wages.

I can't believe McGoldrick is only 34 ...

I am two years older than him and was convinced until earlier last season when I realised he was still playing, that he was about 50 now .. feels weird

Of course, he was always going to end up here :ROFLMAO:

You must be joking, always stood out when playing for Ipswich, came on at half time in the Sheff Utd game last season at The Riverside and was easily their best player....
Unbelievable tbh...
Thanks 👍

We had a certain 37 year old defender here last season who more than did a job for us:
Many a good tune played on an old fiddle. Use sparingly.....

I don't get the absolute negativity. Clearly Wilder knows far better than anyone on here.

It's not even his goal scoring record. He was pivotal to that sheff UTD side (even in the prem). Drops short and links up play. Also a grafter. I'm guessing everything Connally and Balogun weren't in terms of role.

He says he wants leaders and grafters. I'm guessing he falls into that bracket. A one year deal on a free? Why panic. I'm sure the gaffer knows more than people who look at Wikipedia lol

mcgoldrick is no where near my top choices , and goes against the supposed planning for the future route, but , CW knows how to put a team together, he has loads of options in this window, there has never been so many players out of contract , I trust him to get the balance right. He will be like a kid in a sweet shop.
Let's hope he picks the right sweets.
Coburn needs to go out on loan, Watmore deserves a last move.

If he’s coming in as a back-up striker he takes the place or Watmore or Coburn. Neither of which I’d be happy with.

But they did get promoted, don’t get me wrong he won’t get loads of goals but he’ll definitely do a job.
