David De Gea looking to retire

12 years at Man Utd,, would probably make me want to retire tbh

pfft.. should come to boro and have a good laugh with Carrick!

we have a free spot for him..

To be honest, he's probably not getting offers because he's rather limited and so the offers he's getting actually reflect that.

He's poor with distribution, his concentration is dreadful, makes so many mistakes, handling is weak and he has no command of his area.

He has great reflexes at times and can pull off some great saves. However he does the one thing that annoys me most, he saves so many shots with his feet (Nick Pope also does this) and it just shows that he has a lack of goal keeping training. So many times he could make an easy save and hold onto it or push it away to safety but he saves it with his feet and has no control over where it goes and generally results in more pressure on the team or a goal.

A lot of these players seem to forget why they started playing in the first place
I wonder if someone like harry maguire forgets why he started in the first place. If i was him i wouldnt think twice about retiring.

De Gea basically got dumped by United for a fancy passer who can't save simple shots. Again I'd cut my losses and sit on a nice beach somewhere

Not every pro "loves the game" for some it's just "the day job". I guess he has enough money in his investments that he will never need to work again. If he fancies it I guess he could pick up some media work. He might even just take a year off and find that he does miss playing and change his mind. Not really for us to judge.

The reports are that he's considering retiring if he doesn't get offered the number one shirt at a major club.

So basically he wants to play at a high level or he'll retire.

That doesn't sound particularly greedy to me, it's surely the opposite.

He has obviously had offers but values himself at a far better standard than he actually is

It's almost as if hes moaning that nobody wants to over pay for him, i guess his performances for man utd have dictated his value in salary not his ego

I don’t think it’s wholely a case of teams not wanting him, more the biggest teams don’t need him so don’t want to pay big wages. The clubs in the next bracket down can’t afford him.
Most top teams tend to play out from the back of try to, and he has a stigma of being incapable of doing that.

Was going to say exactly this. It's often just a job to some people and given the money he's made he'll be set for life
