Just had a discussion on talk sport as I was driving home and he was talking about how he feels strongly that any new signing needs to be given 8 games to play and know they will be playing to make them feel at home with no pressure or expectation as that’s when you’ll get the best out of them.

As taking them out and putting them in and dropping them is when the doubts creep in and the pressure and expectation begin to mount.

intersting observation

what do people think.

How do you give a player 8 games if the team loses games and the supporters lose confidence in the players and the manager? And all the players lose confidence. Including the new player(s).
Is it down to the fans to be more accepting of defeats and more patient?

Well, our new signings should be fine then, both the manager and the fans have loads of patience.

Absolutely agree with the opening post. Short term pain for long term gain.
We/ Warnock are not committed to that though, although the club may be now heading that way

Even at a lower level switching teams, you feel that change, might start on the bench, have to prove yourself etc. Which is fine.

But when a manager says your one of the best players in my team, your straight in from the off etc then the difference in mindset is huge.

The manager has to believe that though and fully invest.

Obviously Warnock is a manager looking to the shorter term which is fine, but not necessarily a great thing for new, younger players.

Just to add, I do think a player has to come in and believe his the best in his position. Have that mental strength regardless of settling in period.

Payero for example, he has to keep believing. I personally think he will prove it in time, but a manager who says your my first choice and bigs him up behind closed doors would get more out of him quicker than someone more unsure.

We all know that though. The best players in the world believe in themselves 100%. Some think arrogant, but you have to be to be the best, even if you don't show it

easy to do if you are winning or getting good results. We are/were not so cannot afford to be competing with only 10 players making effective contributions. The physicality of the championship is what i think comes as a shock to foreign players and how they need to adjust. That and NW needs all players to be switched on the their defensive duties no matter what position they play.

Depends how many new players youve signed and need to play. If youve got a core squad that you know are capable they could carry a player for a bit whilst not necessarily having a dip in results. If you sign eight players some of which you have no choice but to play whilt simultaneously relying on Howson ffs, then you need players to stand up and be counted and a manager that has answers to difficult questions. So in theory I agree, in practice clubs outside of the top 4 dont have that luxury

I don't think he meant play em the minute they arrive. Let them train, understand the patterns of play then give them the games and make it clear they're is no pressure to perform as they are on boarded on the team.
