To my mind the fact he never shied away from asking for the ball and trying to play a forward pass despite misplacing a few bodes extremely well for him and us, and speaks to his strength of character. We’ve had players in the past who’ve just stopped bothering after the first one or two don’t make it.

Just like people used to worry about Lenihan, Steffen, McGree, Smith et al, Barlaser will come good and play his part for us. You have to give people time to settle. Those players have all had pelters this season and look them now.

And look at Akpom. I mean, there’s a lesson there for all of us when it comes to judging footballers.

Who isn’t giving him time to settle? Are we only allowed to discuss a players performance if they are a regular who has played 25 games?

Worrying start to his Boro career. Surely he’s better than he’s shown so far.

We got worse for his introduction.
Stupid comment
Not really worthy of a thoughtful response but I’ll humour you. He is rusty after little time on the pitch and coming into a game of that intensity isn’t easy when you are sharp made it doubly difficult

Now have I humoured you ?

Was I wrong though?

Cos you’ve come on here with an attitude with your responses
Bottom line, he hasn’t had enough opportunity. It’s hard to come into the midfield and pick up the rhythm of a game like tonight’s, and not only that but affect it in terms of trying to be the man who turns defence into attack with a precise pass.

Another thing that stood out for me about him was how he ALWAYS receives the ball on the half turn. He has a nice drop of the shoulder too. He will slot into a Carrick team seamlessly in the coming months. Just my opinion, obvs.

Yeah I’d like a conversation about him but don’t expect to be shot down for the thread when it was hardly super critical. Just a topic for a chat as people around me at the game were airing similar concerns. Never mind will keep it to myself next time and won’t bother
Don’t be like that. If you post stuff then you’ll get some stuff back, you won’t like it all. It happens to all of us.

I know. That’s why the thread was made in the start of his career and at no point have I said this is an opinion I will stand by forever just going off what we’ve seen so far I would of expected a bit more. That’s all. And we did get worse for his introduction tonight sadly. He seems overly eager to impress which I do get of course.

As I said earlier, the next time he plays it should be from the start as I think it will suit him more. Not sure when that should be mind.

Bottom line is you can make all the excuses you want. Diego was right tonight he was woeful. He couldn't make simple 10 yard pass on any turn or facing a red shirt. Everyone wants him to succeed. i think we are just hoping he can. I'm sure games will help but tonight was a bit worrying.

Don't need to be so defensive do we, know one is writing him off

I take your point but would probably disagree we got worse when he came on. I think Stoke were on top for the entire half to be honest. I just think it was one of those games against a side in good form who forced their way into the game and took control. The good thing for Boro is that we didn’t buckle and chunk a point away. It’s a good point IMO.

I agree it’s a good point, could be valuable. Best to get something when you are not at your best. I don’t know, I just felt safer with Howson on and he wasn’t even particularly good on the ball tonight but he is better off the ball than Barlaser.

Anyway, will leave it at that, I’ve said my piece on the lad and very much hope he proves to be a good signing.

That’s just it, I think a few were off their recent levels tonight and when that happens you just have to respect the opponent, take your point and then think about the next one. I’m pretty sure Barlaser will prove to be an important player for us in the longer run.

I hope so.

Diego 2021 "Anyone who thinks Akpom is better than Ikpeazu please go take up another sport"
You need to be less reactive man,it's easy to look like a burk.
Diego 2022 “He (Mowatt) will be twice the player of McGree”

I hope so.
Well to be fair I said Akpom was sh*t and gave a detailed account of why I thought that about 18 months ago, and was adamant he’d be gone by the end of last August. So I really wouldn’t place much stock in my eye for a player.

But Saturday might be a good one for Barlaser to start actually. I wouldn’t be surprised. It might freshen it up a bit and catch Preston off guard.
